Link should work now. But here are photos.
I also have on/off valve for bulkhead to pump and I believe the union but will have to look.

roger I can't honestly tell you someone might be able to answer. We bought this thought we where going to do all these neat little projects but no time to do so.
It came w/ it when we bought it and it seems like people who are selling kalk stirrers are also including it.

roger - Solenoid for automating dosing of CO2

Too much CO2 can reduce the pH in an aquarium to levels that are stressful for fish. For the safe use of CO2 it is highly recommended to automate the CO2 system with either a simple time switch or by a pH controller.

The in-line solenoid Control Valve connects the CO2 system with either of these devices. Includes both a hose barb with lock nut for in-line connection on the CO2 tubing and a standard 1/8” thread for direct connection to a pressure reducer.

You don't use CO2 on a Kalk reactor.

mflamb - thanks for the info. I would like to know myself. Maybe its for adding ATO to the Kalk. If you google it you will find lots of sites using Kalk reactors w/ soleniod.

Correct, some folks use their controller, with float switches connected to a break out box, to turn on/off a solenoid for kalk control to prevent pH spikes.

Well mike here is what I wanted to do with it tell me if this will work? I didn't plan on using the soleniod.

I want to connect a small pump like a maxi jet or something and have the controller turn on the maxi jet if the ph drops below X and turn the pump off when the ph reaches Y.

Thanks Roger

Roger, if you do it that way, you need ONE top off container and two pumps connected to a DC8 (or equivalent) that is operated by your controller. You also need a low water level float connected through a break out box to your controller. If the pH is below the preset parameter when the low water level float sends it's signal to the controller, the controller turns the pump on that is connected to the kalk mixer and you get raised pH top off water pumped to your sump. If the pH is above the preset parameter, and the low water level float signals the controller, the controller turns on the pump that sends top off water straight to your sump. Make sense?

Since this reply makes me sound smart, I must give credit to Bruce for laying this out for me.

well that is issuming I am running top off water through it. I know that most are doing it this way, but why can't I run salt water in the reacor with the kalk?

This is what I was thinking. have the mixing pump on a timer to mix the kalk and the pump in the sump would turn on when the ph droped.

will this not work and why?

by the way sorry for stealling your thread that was not the point of the question :)

I really just was trying to figure out how to use the solinoid with the kalk reactor that you have. it just dosen't make sense to me.

This is a kalk stirrer and not a kalk reactor. Just keep that in mind.

What is the difference? I thought a stirrer had a mixing pan on the bottom that would stirr the kalk but yours has a pump to mix up the kalk so isn't that a kalk reactor? I know you don't have a calcium reactor as that uses co2 to melt the media but you have a kalk reactor right?

Just semantics.

Roger I don't know much between a stirrer and reactor. It was sold to us a stirrer and I don't want to lead you down any wrong paths. Sounds like Mike is a good person to be asking your questions. I'm not sure if anyone on this forum uses the same one since it was built at DIY build w/ TampaBay club
