stupid clowns :(

I have been battling hair algae for months now and I have all but own...with the exception of a patch that my clowns host . They wont let any of the CuC come near it. They're even managed to mildly injure a yellow tang. The are a pair of occy clowns with the largest one about 3inches and the other a bit smaller. any ideas on how i can get them to "unhost" the pile of hair algae so i can be rid of the stuff once and for all?

Try to pluck what you can by hand and maybe then they will look for a new spot to hang out?

i tried...but they still stick around. i pulled out nearly all of it, minus the stuff that was too small to get, and they managed to guard it well enough that it grew back. The female knows just where to bit too, between the fingers and managed to draw a tiny-tiny drop of blood. i even saw the female take a piece of food into it...they're freaking farming GHA :headwally:

Ummmm you are or should be substantialy larger than your clownfish unless you are an extreme submissive you CAN win this fight trust me on this even a large maroon clown cant take out a human

Sounds like they think its an anemone, and they're being territorial about it. Get rid of the clowns, problem solved.

I too had to laugh hysterically at clowns hosting hair algae! Also agree with everyone else's assessments of removing rock and scrubbing or removing clowns and scrubbing...

I had that problem. My maroon clown just happened to love this corner filled with HA. So I took the whole rock. She was so confused lol.

that is awesome.. at least yours is hosting.. mine arent hosting anything! and i have a beautiful GBT.. and a nice size mushroom that they could host in.. but they swim everywhere and sleep in a corner at night.. it does look like they could be hosting in a rock.. but they swim everywhere and not just at the rock.. so i dunno....

I have had three different instances with ocellaris clowns and each time I had to get a different breed of clownfish to show them how to host, of course that always ment pulling the odd one out after it was all said and done. In my opinion it was well worth it
