Stylo328's 187 (60x30x24) Build Thread

A quick actinic shot to replace the dreaded double post.

It's been a while since I updated this thread and much has happened - fortunately most good.

The QT is several weeks in and is going strong. There are currently about 25 fish in hypo, pending transfer to the main tank.

The coral collection has grown steadily and we are probably nearing 100 frags in the tank.

All systems are functioning as expected and fortunately we have no nuisance algae or any unwanted pests that have been identified.

My hope is to make a formal list of all fish and corals in the system, along with a current photo so that I can effectively document growth, health, response to system changes, etc...

Should I chronicle the list within this thread or would that be pretentious and off-puting?

I say keep the list in this thread, that way we can follow and correlate your tank changes with how the fish/coral acts up.

Yes!

I will start working on the list this weekend and start taking real pictures.

Please do include it in this list, as it will keep all the info together. Easier to follow.

Thanks.

If there is not a picture, it did not happen. Where are the pictures?

BTW, for those that missed it earlier in the thread, my friend DGASMD has given me a 300-gallon poly tank for water storage. My family and I will be making the drive on Sunday to pick it up. Pictures, and install info, forthcoming.

Thank you my friend!

Very nice!

I picked up two 200g (each) poly storage that I am going to store ro in one and sw in the other.

So, we had a small catastrophe yesterday. I rushed home to grab the wife and kids as we had plans for dinner to celebrate my nephews birthday.

As soon as I walked through the door, I noticed the water in the QT was cloudy to the point that I could not see into the tank. I saw the tangs gasping and at least one fairy wrasse was dead.

I ran to the local LFS (who chose this opportunity to give me crap for not spending enough money in his store. Needless to say, my LAST visit there) and grabbed 40 gallons of NSW.

Rushed back to the house, did a water change, consisting of the 40-gallons of NSW and about 10-gallons of RO. Total loss consisted of one lyre-tail anthias, a yellow coris wrasse, and a blue-sided fairy wrasse. The rest of the fish seem to be eating and doing fine today. The water is still a bit cloudy though.

I am running carbon and a bio-wheel filter marineland filter. Tank has been up for several weeks and this is the first issue I've had. I really think this had something to do with some new food I tried the night before.

I fed the fish the pellets and put in two of the marine grazer discs (one on each side of the eggcrate). The fish did not take to the pellets at all, and when I was siphoning out the water, I found that the discs had dissolved into a clumpy mess on the floor.

Does anyone have any experience with this food brand? Or have any suggestions on what may have caused the issue yesterday and residual cloudiness today?

Thanks in advance.

P.s. cannot wait to have 300-gallons of NSW in the garage; yesterday would have gone much smoother.

The water in the QT is significantly more clear today. The only additional casualty was a carpenter wrasse, who was getting the business given to him by the other wrasses in the tank.

Hopefully I can do a water change in both tanks tomorrow.

As previously promised, here is the coral list. I will post additional pictures starting tomorrow as the tank is on actinics for the night and the pics don't really look that great.
