Substrates

What do you folks use for substrates? I'm in the final stages of setting up my fuge and am tweaking the substrate. I have a mix of Nature's Ocean (ultrafine, 10lbs), Black Araga-Alive (10lbs), and Fiji Pink (20lbs). So far my volume calcs have that making just under 1.5" sand bed. I'm thinking about throwing in another bag to bump it just over 2" but am slightly unsure what to top it off with. I'm leaning Sugar-Max for more fines (I'm keeping a couple gobies to keep the bed turned; my primary purpose is nutrient export for a stick tank) but am definitely open to suggestions.

if it where me. I would to a display fuge. that way you can enjoy the gobies and macros and still get the export you want. maybe that what your talking about??

i think the depth od sand bed all depends on what you want to keep. as far a macro and gobies go. sea glass and other rooting macro tend to like 2+ inches from my limited understanding.

if you not going seagrass i would think the 1.5" would be fine.

We're on the same page. I went bare-bottom in my main display for reasons of flow and nowhere for detritus to accumulate, my fear is that it will get drawn in to the fuge and settle there. I don't want to make a macro-filled detritus sink. It would be rather difficult to get it out and annoying over time. Hence the sleeper goby doing the sand sifting - I want to keep things moving at least somewhat.

Good to know on the rooting. Macros off rocks is still something I am wrapping my head around. Thanks Dev.
