successful sebae anemones?

i read that not many people have successfully kept sebae anemones for 6+ months. is this true? i want to get one for my future onyx clowns, but if they are that hard to keep dont plan on investing in one

also is there a difference between h. malu and h. crispa?

Yes, they are 2 different species.

I had an H. crispa for a couple of years about 13 years ago -- give or take a year. I lost it during a power failure, but at the time it was taking up about 1/3 of my 75.

There is a thread on the first page about H. malu, should be some decent pictures in there.

dang that must have been a sight to see. h. malus seem to be the ones that stay relatively small? i have been told that onyx clowns may lose their color if they do not host in their "natural" host. would h. malus be okay??

It was pretty cool -- too bad it was before digital cameras.

Yes, H. malu do stay smaller.

I can only speak for myself, my percs lost their black with an M. doreensis, and regained it with an S. haddoni.

I would LOVE to get a haddoni but my tank is a 30 so im going to either stick with my rbta or hope that an onyx wont lose its color with a h.malu

H. Crispa and H. Malu can be kept healthy and happy virtually forever. The real issue is getting one healthy and happy in your tank. They do not travel well and most you see for sale are not in good shape at all, even at reputable stores. If you get one in your tank and it is still growing and healthy after 6 months you are usually in good shape. However, anemones can die very slowly, and sometimes an anemone can hang on for months before finally giving up. That's where the "hard to keep over 6 months" comes from.

I got a pair of Malu for about 7 years, lost the female when my tank cracked over the weekend in my office. Fortunaely I was able to save my male Malu. I got Onyx Percula pair with this Malu forever.

i see, how big did u malu's get? can i keep them in a 30 gallon?

They max out at about 8 inches or so. 30 gallon tank is OK but they need bright light and good water parameter and a sand bed 3+ inches deep

That sounds good, I'm restarting my tank and I'm making a DIY led light so hopefully I can get one in the future!
