Suction of Tunze Streams

Hi Roger

Im getting ready to order a couple of streams. Thanks for all the help you have given me so far :) I do have one question though...about the force of suction from the Streams...particularly from the 6000 and 6100.

I have a porcupine puffer in my 180g. They are notorious for getting stuck in powerhead intakes. He's about 4" long...still a baby...and tends to stay towards the bottom half of the tank unless I feed him.

Is the suction something I should worry about?

Thanks in advance.

Bill

Yes, puffers suck when it comes to getting sucked into powerheads. I honestly don't know. I would probably either A) use 6000 Streams in stream rocks (this would shield the intakes for the most part) or B) use 7400/2 pumps but given the tank size 3-4 would be needed, in this case I would use an intake extension and drop the intake under the rock. When I worked in retail most puffers met their death on powerheads more than any other cause so I would be careful.

Actually one more question Roger.

When they are installed in the rocks...where and how does it pull water from?

thanks
bill

The rock has a bunch of arches and the water comes in through the underside and arches. You have to place it on a stack of rock or a bare bottom tank or it will suck in sand.
