sudden death of a clown

My 33 gallon tank has been set up for about 2.5 months. For the 1 st month i was running hob filters only and doing water changes with tap water. For the past 1.5 months i've been doing water changes with distilled water and i'm running an aqua c remora skimmer. Still have a hob for the poly filter.
I also have a star polyps and clove polyps which are doing fine.
The clowns were doing fine and very active up untill i discovered 1 of them dead this morning. Not sure why!!
Ammo=0
Nitrite=0
Nitrate=10
Alkalinity=7.7
ph 8.0
I dose with aquaforest pro bio s and np pro.
Never had an issue with water quality other than what you'd find in a maturing tank (algae blooms,diatoms...)
The only thing i can i see that could be a contributing factor is that i moved some rocks around releasing dirt and dust in the water column.
Any clues?

Another question. Which clown species can i introduce in my tank now that i only have 1? The bigger one of the 2 died. Can i introduce a bigger one or a smaller one? Does it make a difference as long as they're not the same size?

If it's right after the fish died then you can introduce a larger fish and it will take the role of female (or a smaller fish to take the role of male) if it is a couple weeks after then your male might've turned into a female and you should introduce a smaller fish to take the role of a male

Depends
if your going to introduce a bigger one then yes or rearrange the rock work where it "sleeps" because the bigger one will claim dominance and the male will defend its territory and it can get dirty
If your introducing a smaller one then no the male will turn female and show the new male their new "home"

So I went and bought a smaller one today.
The bigger one seems to be ok with the new guy.
The new one was in a tank with anemones...should I buy one since he had some in his old tank?

Since it looked normal it could just have died for no reason at all if there are no other fish coral or invertebrates affected then it could have been old or something

Anemones are not needed

If you have a tank and lighting that can take care of one and you want one then get one make sure its a anemones that was aqua-cultured in a tank they are hardier

I think your tank is pretty young to add an anemone. Plus, not being sure why your clown died, I would probably hold off for awhile. You could break a clay flower pot in half and put that in there...doesn't do much for looks but your clowns will appreciate it.

I have a clay pot. You're right about the anemone. I'll wait till the tank is mature enough and when I'm sure all things are good.

Don't think the clown was old. He was barely 2".

Size doesn't define age with clowns
Here is a example if you have 4 clowns 2 of them mature the other two will stay in a juvenile state until they can get their chance at being an adult
Some clowns just stay small

I didint see that your tank was not mature yes you need a tank that was cycled properly and matured so that your levels stay consistent and relatively low
