summer is so good for my tank

well I can't wait for summer, it will be so good for my tank. I have noticed that pH has been stable at 8.1 to 8.3 everyday since we've been able to keep the windows open all day.

additionally I finally realized that I am a TOTAL idiot...I placed my tank in a location that is great in summer but terrible in winter. why? because when the trees have leaves on them they block late day direct sun from blasting in the patio window right into the tank, but unfortunately all winter it has been getting massive amounts of natural light in addition to the MH's. For the life of me I could not nail down why I was getting such bad algea in the front of the tank, but now I think I have deduced it.

I looked at everything, phosphate, lowering nutrients, using carbon again, I even started to think maybe the small amount of precipitate from my kalk that was getting in with the top off was causing it, but extra light is the one thing that has definately changed since last fall. It's always the last thing you suspect.

hmmmmm... funny you should mention that Adam, on the days I've had the house open I've noticed about a .2 increse in my pH. I still get some fluctuation but I don't light my sump 24/7 either...

As for the light, I still have issues trying to limit the natural source we spend big bucks trying to replicate....

do you notice any nuisance algea growth associated with the extra light, I am thinking that it HAS to be what is spurring mine.

one bad thing about summer, I came home and the house was pretty warm due to the lack of a breeze through the open windows and us not turning on the ac yet. tank temp was at 82.6 and my norm is usually a steady 80.1, however within an hour after lights out the temp was back at normal, so no harm done I guess.
