Sump content ?

the other tang

New member
I have had a 40g reef for years but with no sump......so I am a sump rookie.

I just bought a used 105 Oceanic with a 30g long sump plumbed and ready to go. I am not looking to change the design but am looking for some advice on what to put in it. Here is the current set up....in order.

Return from tank pipe, bio-balls" that I am scrapping" , baffle, mud/chaeto area, baffle, skimmer, return to tank.

I am thinking about adding LR in place of the bio balls, is this a bad idea in the first zone " for lack of a better term" ? I will also add a sock filter on the return to the sump.

Tell me what " and how much of it" you guys have in your sumps

Thanks,

Rusty

I have a skimmer, a 250w heater, and two media reactors.

There is some rock that I cured outside of the tank and put in to replace my zoanthid covered rocks. I will do the swap and remove the rock from the sump after I move the fish.

A powder blue tang and a sohal tang. They are becoming friends before they are added to my display to try and increase their odds when added to my display.

I like to vacuum my sump with water changes so I prefer when stuff isn't in my way.
