Sump/Filtration Setup for 250G

Hi Everyone,

I have ordered a 8 foot tank 2400MM (L) * 600MM(W) * 760MM (H).

Ive had some problems with the make up of my sump/filtration.

I intend to keep soft and hard corals, very minimal fishes and approx 200KG of LR and 1inch of LS in the display tank.

My Cabinet has already been made. My filtration will be "in cabinet". Cabinet size 2400MM (L) * 640MM(W) * 900MM(H). Can anyone please suggest the best setup possible for filtration/sump.

I want to put my QT tank in the cabinet aswell as a electrical board, so approx 1000MM of under cabinet space will be already taken. That leaves me with approx 1400MM of space for my sump.

I was thinking making my sump 1300MM(L) * 500M(W) a trickle filter, massive skimmer (please recommend good brands) and live rock packed into the sump and a calcium reactor.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

ok so the tank is:
94" long
24" wide
30" high
the tank is almost 300 gal. acording to those dimentions


the stand is:
94" long
25" wide
35" high

39" will be tanken from the stand for the QT and elect. which leaves you with 55" for the sump.

you are thinking of making a sump that is:
51" long
20" wide
how tall would you want the sump?

also on the skimmer do you have a price range?


and you will have 440lbs of LR

I have 900MM (approx 35") of height in my cabinet so im open to the most effective height, while still allowing me access for maintence.

In terms of budget for my skimmer, I dont mind really as I dont want to buy something them realise i want a better one.

With a skimmer, ive been looking at some that do 4000ltr per hour, is it a case of the bigger the better for a skimmer?

I suggest going with something around 20 - 24" or 500 - 600mm high.

I wouldn't say the bigger the better always but you will want a skimmer rated for around 400gal. IMO something like the Octopus Extreme 300 would be 1 good choice and not to bad in price.

now just as an example by using that skimmer you would need a foot print of around 15"L X 20"W and still have a little room to play. for the rest of the sump I would have an area of 26"L X 20"W area for the fuge and then leave about 3" for a bubble trap and then an area around 7"L X 20"W for your return section.

That's what i ordered from the LFS but they had problems getting it in (but they think they still can ... just a delayed)

I like the idea of a all in one system but it's all abit up in the air at the moment.

wow, that looks like a very nice setup. comes with everything lol.

the only thing I would change on that system would be the 100l bio-filter part, I would change that into a fuge section. which would be an easy switch. just take out the bioballs and such and replace with LR rubble, some macro algae and a small light.

That's brilliant - because i really like this setup. So if i took out the bioballs, is it a case of adding 5-6" of LS at the base then LR Rubble to the top, mirco algae and a small cheapo lamp?
