Sump Help!!!

I am seeting up a 110 gallon reef tank. I was getting ready to do DIY sump with a 40 gallon tank below when I realized (thankfully before i got it) that i don't have enough room below for the tank. Issue is the tank base is only 17 inches deep. Suggestions?

Are you building your own stand? I made my stand bottom wider than the top to accommodate the width of the sump. If not, a different size tank for the sump is also an option.

Mine is not as deep as well, I have a little of my sump extending from the back (about 6 inches) but that doesn't really matter to me since I have an external overflow and I need 6 inches on the back anyway. Besides, it is easier for the external overflow to go straight down to the sump so that was a blessing in disguise...

i have a few options that i can do. I can make a new stand (bought this tank and stand used), and build it wider then the tank. Or i could put in 3 10 gallon tanks or a combination of 10 gallon and 20's and do a overflow/skimmer, refug, and return.

I think, if I were you, I would go for a stand rebuild. What I don't like about my stand is that it is too short and I struggle to access the sump inside. If I was to do it again today, I'd build one.

Also, the more complexity you add you your system the more things can go wrong (seals, equipment etc).

My two cents...

took morpheas's suggestion and did a total stand rebuild. I am SO happy i did, much better with tons more space.

Sometimes it's just "easier" to build something to the specs that you need than try to make purchases fit into what you have...
