Sump question

GO NOLES!
Right now I have my sump set-up with the drain hose draining into the Filter sock, then the water runs trough some live rock....then trough the return pump. I have thought about getting rid of the filter sock all together, and just loading that side up with live rock? What do you guys think?

When it comes to a skimmer, is bigger always better on a FOWLR tank? I know the reef guys don't what to big of a skimmer because it pulls nutrients out of the water. Example, I am upgrading to a 250 gallon tank...I am looking at a skimmer that's for a 600 gallon tank. Would that be to much?

That would work but personally I like to have the option to run mechanical filtration when I feel the need.

I use live rock rubble, filter socks (sloppy eaters leave a lot of stuff in the water), and a big skimmer. I use an oversized skimmer in my reef tank too. I don't buy the theory that I am over skimming nutrients out of the water.

+1

Get several socks and rotate them. When you pull the last one, toss them all into the washer with no detergent and give them a wash, then air dry. If you like them nice and white, add a bit of bleach to the wash.
