Sump size question

Looking to build a system with a 75 display and would like to take advantage of the Petco $1 sale. Is a 40 gallon breeder tank sufficient for a sump? I'll be plumbing it in a room behind/below the display, so there are no restrictions. Would a larger one be better?? 55gal? Any advice would be appreciated..thx.

I'm thinking the exact same thing , trying to decide between a 40 breeder or 55g for my 90 gallon SPS tank. Currently have a 30 gallon sump but upgrading to a basement sump

40 breeder or a 55 make excellent sumps for a 75 display.

Because of it's large footprint, a 40 breeder is especially nice for a sump if you have the room for it.

I prefer the 40 breeder just due to the width and the fact it is drillable. If in the future your plans change, where as the 55 is not.

I run a 40B on my 200. It's a great sump. Because its so wide, a huge amount of flow makes its way through the baffles with serenity. Not too deep, so easy to clean. Go for it. For $40, you cant go wrong. It's footprint is fairly large, so if it's under the tank, it might be tight (I see you are not, but my last point is submitted for completeness).

what size sump for a 40 breeder then? I see people using a 20L But I keep hearing more water volume is better? I also am not that capable in making my own sump.
