Sump smells like beer

Anyone ever had anything like this? Just opened cabinet to my sump to check on things and got a strong whiff of a sour beer smell.

I dont drink beer so no chance of any spills near tank or anything like that.

Tank looks ok save slightly more brown hair algae than normal, only thing is i have noticed water is cloudier than normal since i changed out and hooked up GFO / Carbon reactor after water change this weekend.

Just took reactor offline again.

my girlfriend way overfed the tank last night with pellets... there were like 50 extra pellets floating in the tank, figured the sock has filtered them out. i'll remove tonight... could thta be it?

tanks def have some interesting smells. usually sulfur smells from the organics being produced by the tank. I would do some tests just to make sure things are ok. and don't wait on changing the filter socks... Nothing besides problems in aquariums happen fast. you don't need an ammonia or nitrate spike from overfeeding.... good luck!

Run Carbon

Excess food could induce some decay. Some carbon might help, but I suspect the odor will fade on its own, too.

Water change?

Took joint gfo / carbon reactor offline and changed filter sock. Water is crystal clear again. Smell lingered for a while I'll check tonight to see if it's there. The reactor was clouding the water some. Still not sure abt smell. Filter sock didn't smell like beer when I took it off. Only other thing I guess could be slimmer. Hasn't been producing just clogging neck since ice been playing with water levels. Should produce now.
