sunset ?

I would like to know if this monti is a real sunset. To me it doesn't look like it. It doesn't have the nice orange base and the polyps are to light not like the deep green polyps the real sunset has. So what do you guys think.

Doesn't look like it from the picture, but I have seen it lose color before when water parameters or lighting were not ideal. Low or fluctuating alk, low salinity, too much light / or not acclimated slowly enough to high light, extreme shipping stress are all things that could potentially cause it. Give it some time to adapt, make sure the alk is correct and stable. If it still looks like that in 6 weeks or so, then I'd say no, it's probably not original. All 3 of my pieces have faded and / or lost color to varying degrees for various reasons, but all have bounced back to full vibrant colors.

It should be bright orange with the bright green polyps. Yours may be real and just in bad shape. Are you water parameters ok, how are the other things in your tank? Do you have it under high light with high flow? That is where I have mine.

I had one that lost a lot of color almost pale, took 3 months to recover. But was never that pale compared to that color. Mine is now dark orange and the other 1 is burnt orange.

I just got them two days ago from a well-known online vender. I hope its because of the shipping stress. I'll give it a couple of months and see if it colors up. My tank is fine I have lots of growth. My Alk 10.4 Cal 440
salinity 1.026.

I started mine all the way in the bottom and gradually brought it up as time passed and the coral recovered. Now super orange with bright green polyps.

It still could be a sunset. When I received mine I too had my doubts, as the thing was almost white as snow, with almost clear polyps. It has been one my most favorite corals to watch color up. Give it a chance, it may come around. This is the sunset that member Viper930 distributes.

Hopefully it turns out for you!

I have a superman monti that went totally brown and now it is vibrant red and has a great plue base so dont give up hope coloration just takes time

Give it some time. When I frag mine it tends to brown out quite a bit. Let it heal up then judge it. I've found that pieces that are placed lower in the tank tend to be a darker deeper orange and higher light brightens up the orange.

Definitely could be real. I wouldn't worry too much. Mine literally took months to get colored up:

You can see in this pic that the piece on the left was recently fragged:

The light area of new growth/healing, is very similar to your pic. I think all you need is time;)

Ah, first time I saw someone use his initials:p

Mine's about 6" across now. The growth pattern's kind of annoying me. For some reason, it grows into the shade:mad:

I have not heard of any "wild" sunset so I would say it's probably the real deal...
Unlike superman which has alot of look alike and different forms like ball shape and encrusting version.

mine is just spreading off of the frag cradle onto the rock, but i've never had much trouble keeping it colored well
