super aggressive royal gramma

LauraCline...I really like your avatar. I did a lot of diving on the Flower Gardens National Marine Sanctuary in the early 90's, and shot some video that looked like that.

thanks! I bet your videos are awesome. I'm really into nature and photography so we have a ton of photos all over the house of stuff like that and more.

I have a nice photo of a Stonefish and another of a large Wolf Eel that I took while diving near the Gabriola Islands in British Columbia. The only time I ever went diving with a still camera.

morning update, late last night I rearranged some rock to try and make the tank look different. I fed the tank some mysis and the firefish got some but as soon as the gramma saw it again, she went after the firefish non-stop. The lights have been off since then. I turned them on briefly this morning and there is no sign of the firefish. :( I checked to make sure she didn't escape through the eggcrate though.

Still no sign of the firefish and I've looked all over. I hope it's not dead somewhere in the tank. I read that they can hide really well when scared and reappear later so I've got my fingers crossed that when I get Dotty out, she'll show up.

well I found the firefish :( I noticed there were no crabs/snails anywhere and sure enough they were all under a ledge. They have almost eaten it completely. The gramma definately killed it, it was healthy and eating when I got it.

Just read this, but I have something similer with a damsel (yes i know a bad idea!) but it's pretty and seems to keep to himself but does have a nasty strick every so often and have had major issue with new fish, it just wont leave them alone long enough to settle, I have a big tank and understocked I think thats the major problem.
After watching reefvideos I noted a guy using a shaving mirror when adding fish, and it works too, my damsel beats the glass not the new fish, after a few days things calm down and i remove the mirror.

Just an idea for next time

Thanks newrossman. I'm not going to risk it again. The gramma does constantly attack the glass along with any new additions. I've lost 2-3 hermits inexplicably. They may have just died but, everything else in the tank is very healthy so it's possible she killed them with her harrassment. It's not just the money, it's killing something beautiful but, just about everything in the tank cost more than the gramma. She goes as soon as I get around to it. Then I'm going to start over with a purple firefish and possibly a neon goby. I will probably do the pair of grammas later as Rob suggested in the 150.

wait your going to kill her? thats what I got out of that? She goes when I get around to it... I'll take her and set up a ten for her until I find her a home if your going to...

oh no playa never, lol. I meant she was going out of my tank to somebody else's tank. Kill a fish, please. I'm the most soft-hearted person towards animals and kids - total pushover, lol.

I did give her the finger after I found the firefish remains, I hope that doesn't count as cruelty, that's as bad as I would do though, lol.

Well, I've tried trapping and everything else and even after removing the rocks, I still couldn't catch the gramma in a reasonable amount of time. Finally, the pump had been off so long that I had no choice but to get the tank back together. It doesn't look as good as it did. I can't see the featherdusters on this one rock and there is stuff from the rocks all over my sand bed. The gramma has been put in her place though. I bought a small juvi emporer angel and added him today. She tried her open mouth crap on him only once and he didn't even flinch. He flares his fins and the gramma takes off. I named him Elvis since he's the King, lol.
