Super Reef Octopus SSS-5000

Just wanted to say a few things about the new line of Super Reef Octopus Skimmers. Not to be confused with the new line of cone skimmers that they are also putting out. The full line can be viewed here : http://www.coralvue.com/SuperReef.html. The model I ended up grabbing was the SSS-5000 internal model. Not only is it in-sump, but the pump is actually located INSIDE the body of the skimmer! Makes for a very small footprint considering the size and power of this bad boy.

Definately looks to be a very well built skimmer, and the new bubble blaster pumps seem top notch. The clear venturi/volute on the pump if nothing else gets lots of +cool points.

I have that skimmer running on a fish-only display system that consists of two 75 gallon tanks and one 65, sump gallonage roughly around 50. So around 265 gallons. I would say heavy bioload with around 20 fish. Most are larger specimens that get fed heavily 3 times a day.

Since I run the saltwater side of my LFS I order direct from Coralvue.

I would assume internet vendors will have these up for sale soon and this particular model I would guess to be around $500 give or take.

I was actually very surprised that there was absolutely NO info on these skimmers anywhere. Considering how much is available for their new cone skimmer and you can't even buy that one yet.

I just got the 5000 sss today got it set up its been like 3-4 hours and its pulling some good skimmate. I had a ASM G-3 and this blows it out of the water.

just got my 5000sss. trying to tune it. i had water level at 12", then 9" ..not much a difference. what's the recommendation?

thanks
