Super reef xp2000 - design issue

I've run an ASM g3 skimmer for years and decided to upgrade to newer tech for my new tank. After reading, researching and hemming and hawing I bought the xp2000. I must say, it's certainly is quieter and gets a nice bubble column.

The only thing I hate is that the cup snaps into place and subsequently, when you remove it, you have to unsnap, it which usually results in spilling gunk. The G3 slipped on and twisted to lock in. I hadn't read that in all my research - is this the way most cone skimmers are made now?

I agree in the sense that the twist and locks are easier and more convenient but I wouldn't call it a design issue. its just as efficient as the other but maybe a littler harder to remove at times.

It appears most skimmers use the "snap" cup design.

No not all, THe JNS still has twist loc, AS well as Aquamaxx, Skimz, WM, and reefdynamic off the top of my head.

Too late for me now mojo! :). However, hopefully this post will at least make people aware that all cup/cone connections are not the same. Might not matter to some, but if I knew then what I know now I would have bought another skimmer.

After running my XP3000 for awhile I've found that it slips in & out smoothly. Give it time and see if yours losens up.

Much better than the twist lock of the Deltec it replaced IMHO

I put my hands on each side of the top of the skimmer and flex the top of my hands upwards while pushing down with my fingers to loosen the skimmer cup. It comes off slowly and smoothly with no spilling of skimate.
