I just got a supermale hawaiian flame wrasse and I have a bird netting screen so it won't jump out..... I haven't seen it for a couple days now....do they hide??? The female is swimming around....I have no idea where the male is??? Anyone know?

The bigger they are the longer it takes for them to acclimate especially the male. I would say 4-7 days the male will come around slowly from hiding. When I got my pair I follow the female and she will find the male.

I didn't have this experience with my flame wrasse trio. I received them direct from HI and they were out in QT, and then in my display, almost immediately. In fact, the supermale Flame I have is always right up front and extremely active.

BTW, bird netting will not keep wrasse in your tank longterm. You need to get pond netting. The holes are only 1/4" as opposed to the 1/2" birdnetting. I got mine at a pond store and it is actually made by Supreme, who also make Mag pumps.

I had the same experience as Jason. Mine have never really been shy.

My large male had a harder time adapting to aquarium foods though.

I never had a problem with mine hiding either. They are always out even so after releasing into the main tank after purchase. What other fish are in your tank? If any are bothering it could be why you haven't seen him and if so could be the chaser isn't bothered by the female so leaves her alone.

did you put it into your tank immediately after purchase with no QT?

if so they will swim right to the rocks and will either not come out, or take very long to do so.

i find QT-ing them first or putting them in a floating fox helps calm them down much better and they come out immediately after placement in the display.

I bought the fish from my friend...so I did not QT him. The first couple days he was swimming around and trying to jump out of the tank and eating a lot. He was always in the back of the tank, top corner and sometimes chillen with the female... Then all of a sudden he disappeared. I have not seen him in the last 3 days.

The fish I have are:
purple tang
powder blue tang
Bellus Angelfish
green chromis
clown fish
purple firefish

I also have a reef tank..

I donno...do you think he is still in the tank..I have been looking around the tank to see if he jumped out but can't see him. It is hard for me to see the back of my tank because the tank is in a corner.
