Supermarin 200 - Reefer 450?

Hey guys,

What's your opinion on running a Bubble King Supermarin 200 on a Red Sea Reefer 450?

Display tank is 92 gal (350L)
Sump is 24 gal (90L)

Fish, a tad more than normally stocked.
Feeding, 2 cubes per day, flakes and pellets 3-4 times per day.

Tank is one year old, SPS dominated, LNS, running a biopellet reactor.
Planning on switching to ULNS ZeoVit method with a zeolite reactor.

Grateful for any opinions and guidelines, thank you.

The SM200 is WAY too much skimmer for that size display and would be extremely inconsistent. A Double Cone 180 would be a much better choice and would be more than capable of a future 150 gallon display thought it's still marginally over sized for the 90g display unless you have a REALLY heavy load. . Also keep in mind that these skimmers hold their value really well. As such, if you upgrade down the line to a 200 gallon, you could always sell the Double Cone 180

I forgot about this thread I started.. sorry.

Thank you very much for the reply.

I'm aware of the fact that the SM200 is way over rated for my display and bioload. But, my plan is to upgrade to a ~200g tank next spring/summer. Unfortunately aquarium gear does not hold a great value where I live, not even Bubble King.

Despite the facts I ordered a SM200 RD3 and got it delivered last week. Running 28W, wedge about 60% closed, sitting in 8,7" water. 12 hrs after installing the skimmer a solid foam cap was formed.

By 48 hrs it looked like this.

You are definitely off to a good start. Looks like you have a high level of dissolved organics in the water right now. Once it catches up with the DOC's I would expect it to slow down but it's looking good so far!

I'm running ZEOvit and my nutrients are at a descent level. I do feed quite a lot due to a very hungry Moorish Idol... :D

I agree, I think it will ease off when the DOC's are lower, we will know in a couple of days.

Cleaned the cup today... the smell was horrible, much worse than my old Reef Octopus skimmer.

I noticed that the riser tube in the cup is detachable for easy cleaning. [emoji106]

This monster skimmer is way oversized for my 92 g moderately stocked display tank, I know. But, I think I've found the sweet spot. Running the pump at 36W. This is three days worth of smelly skimmate, and the skimmer is running consistent in my ZEOvit system.

Just checking in to see how the skimmer is doing...I'm about to go to a RS450 and looking for a Bubble King...

Thank you!

Running it at 32W.
Sitting at 24 cm depth.
Wedge closed about 60%.

The skimmer is running a bit on the wet side, but till consistent with this settings. And that's what the SM is made for, isn't it?

3 months in.. still working like a dream.
You have to think outside of the box. RE recommend 28-32W of pump power. I have gradually increased the power and the sweet spot for my set up is 46W. Yes, 46W. At this setting I can run it wet, and dry, no problems at all. It runs really sweet. The skimmer pulls a lot of crap out of my tank and it's running consistent. This movie is shot a couple of minutes ago, about 36 hrs after last cleaning of the collector cup.

Still running very consistent, I wonder when it's going to slow down.. ;)

I don't think my bio load is that heavy for a 92 gal tank. No excessive feeding. Low nutrients ZEOvit SPS dominated.

Fish stock:

1 Moorish Idol
1 Acanthurus Pyroferus
4 Chromis
1 Salarius Romanus
2 Vallencienna Sexgutatta
1 Scooter Blenny
1 Sixline Wrasse
2 Four Stripe Damsell
