ok guys i have a question; when will my male swallowtail start playing nice with my female? he chases her when shes near, and it stressing her out. heres a pic of them when i first got them. male looks the same but his tail is a bit longer.

well a friend ordered them for me from a wholesaler and they were kept together in the same tank till i picked them up a week later. and naturally they were intro'd together.

hmmm i hope the male isnt going to turn on me. :( ive had them for almost a month. got them 12/19

Your male isn't really fully male. Pale stripes, black edges on the tail, and I can't quite tell, but it looks like it is missing it's namesake: the black spot on its breast. Just a guess, but the relative closeness in size, and color pattern may be why he's chasing her...to establish better dominance?

k thanks this was what was thinking. i wonder how long till he changes fully.

yay..... -__- my male is slowly going back to being a female....in spite of his dominance over her...not cool, any guesses y?

neither of them are being bullied. and they are much less aggressive towards each other then when i first got them...

also they seem to enjoy going to the surface and taking gulps of air...and then swimming around as the slowly "burp" the air out...not floating food or anything, and they get plenty to eat too. its just their "thing" anyone else observe this?

I bought my swallowtails as a pair from the LFS. The male has dark bars all over it self and the female is about two centimeters smaller with no patterns.

Yea so where mine. Note the picture above. He was in the process of going full male but now his stripes Are almost completely gone. :/ kinda dissapointed I like having male female pairs of fish. Oh well.

genicanthus angels are terribly tricky.

the males are very difficult to remain males for some reason.

i believe copps and other reefers have discussed this before somewhere here.
