SWC 1A Cone skimmer review

Or ask Jeff and Rob at MSX. They have been super helpful too.:D

Red looking real good. What an improvement. It took about two months for my skimmer to catch up to my bio-load. It skimmed like yours for the first two months. It was humbling to find out how much extra nutrients were in the water column, cause it was all showing up in the skimmer cup. Best thing to ever happen to my tank.

I may have missed a post but does anyone have a close up on the Askoll pinwheel? Or does the askoll motor have the mesh? thanks

have you noticed an improvement with color and health on your sps? is only been about 2 days and i already seem to notice that my sps are looking better.

Red I have a LPS tank. So no I haven't seen improvement on my SPS. LOL. I have had zoanthids color up brighter, favia color up, and my sand get whiter. There is less algae on the glass too and my hair algae has nearly died off. I feed more, so my fish and anemones are healthier. I've had baby anemones clone themselves from what I think is from the extra feeding. My tank has shown lots of improvement since using this skimmer.:D

May be I missed it but are SWC and MSX cone skimmers the same? SWC wants $70.00 to ship the 250s to Florida and MSX is $19.14 for the msx1s skimmer.

Thanks

MSX rebrands SWC skimmers. They also do some custom upgrades to the skimmers. Depending on where you live, will change which site to order from. If you live in Canada or a state close to the border, SWC might be the better choice. If you live in the States, MSX might be a better choice. There are other online sites as well that sell the skimmers under the SWC name.

BlueStag, could you post some pics of your setup of the skimmer and the tank it's running on? Looking forward to your posts. Thanks

Here is a link to the build out of my tank. It mostly looks the same now, except some live stock changes from sps to lps and new additions of fish. I haven't taken any current photos in a while, since I never really recovered from a SPS crash a few years ago, and haven't been nearly as involved with the hobby as I was. Otherwise, just another 180 with lots of fish, and just few corals. I spend more time looking at my skimmer than the tank. LOL. It's kind of funny how much skimmers have changed. When you read the thread build out, you can see what we used to think was a good skimmer. This cone skimmer blows them away. Things have really changed in a relatively short amount of time.

Thanks for all of the info here blue. I am looking to pick this skimmer but I am a little concerned about my sump/stand dimensions (this is for a build in progress). I have around 29 inches total height, with a sump height of 18 inches. I am worried that once this skimmer goes in the sump, I may not be able to remove it if I were to need to. Can anyone who owns one of these give me their opinions? Thanks!

Would this skimmer be too big for a 150 mixed reef? or is there such a thing as too big of a skimmer? I'm planning my next upgrade (150) and am really interested in this skimmer.

BlueStag, nice build. Impressive cabinetry as well.

Looks like you used MacroRocks or similar?

Really interested in seeing where all the gunk is coming from that the SWC has been pulling out :)

Remote fish room I assume?

Rpeeps thank you. I have 4 RBTA's that I feed about 8 to 10 silversides a week, on top of the 3-4 cubes of mysis and nori strips daily. No remote fish room.
