Switching a tank to FW

So I've got two 120G tanks in my living room. One of them has been doing really good, and the other has become neglected due to a lot of different reasons.

I've unsuccessfully tried to sell a complete setup but nobody seems to want a complete setup, and I don't want to part out just to sell.

Here's my latest dumb idea. Sell off a bunch of the live rock and maybe live sand and convert that tank to freshwater. I could cut the lighting WAY down from the current 6x54W and 2x70W halide and I could also get rid of the closed loop pump.

What are your thoughts about using some pieces of LR in a FW tank? I'm sure that it would die and just become wet rock after a period of time. There's only a couple big pieces that I might use from that tank and the rest I would sell off.

Oh well, I'm just musing anyway...

Thanks for listening to me babble.

I just sold off my large freshwater tank. I would run smore ads for a complete setup and then think about parting it out if it does not sell. If you take livestock and sell it first then the liverock and then the equipment, you could get decent money back out of it all. The for sale and trade forums here are an excellent way to reach a BUNCH of reefers. It sounds like a nice setup that someone would enjoy alot.

Going from salt back to fresh?!
BLASPHEMY!!!LOL
I'd try craigslist, and piece it as earlier suggested.

if you bleach the rock, rinse it, and set it in the sun for a few days it will be fine for freshwater.

I am actually in a similar situation... I am upgrading my 75 to a 210.

I plan on switching the 75 to a Planted FW. How much of a deal is it going to be to completly clean the salt and such before I set it up as fresh? Will I run into a problem with the silicone joints or anything?

Thanks,

Jeff

I used live rock, (after dried in sun for a month, then rinsed and cured in fresh water with a couple water changes) for a african cichlid tank. Used crushed coral on undergravel filter in a 75gal. This helped keep ph stable and was a great tank for years until I got back into reefin. Had it for about 6 years.

I just think that a FW tank will just be WAY easier to maintain. I've already got the auto topoff running, and doing 20G water change with FW will be so easy that I can do it while laughing.

Here's what I'm up against and why the current tank has become neglected.... A baby on the way, and the wife wanting to get out of our current house and into a bigger one.

A school of 100 neons under actinic lights would be sweet. lol

Had a friend who went FW because of a budget and didnt want to sell the LR/sand because he would reseed it later when he had the money for salt. For that he made it into an african cichlid tank. The rock/sand buffed the water well keeping a higher pH and the cichlids love rocky environments. It turned out to be a great looking tank and actually got me into keeping cichlids before I finally jumped into the salty end. Anyways A. cichlids are the most interresting fish to me, personality is great personality and some can match SW fish's colors. Try looking up a Blue Peacock cichlid and imagin it under some actinics.
