SWUBE: 1000 gal Swiss Reef

Nice job on cutting the holes in the glass. That must have been a slow slog at 1" thick laminated!

Unbelievable scale and precision in this build, I am excited to see it progress!

Whats the ETA on the 1/2 black glass? Nice to know you aren't rushing anything- do it right the first time :)

I think there's a guy in Zurich right now hand grinding some sand to make the glass..... but as slow as that may be it could still be faster than my current supplier :-(

My guess is another couple of weeks but at least if I get the 2nd sump then I can finish all the plumbing, wet test it, dry and clean it and then start the scape. Just leaving enough space for those important 2 pieces of glass.

OK I know how you guys like pictures !

I needed to wet test the display tank so last night I went for an 80% fill,

It took 60mins to fill to 80% so about 650 gallons.

This meant that sooner or later someone had to get in and it wasn't going to be me with that water temperature...

As it's a long weened here I had chance to get a few more things done so the RO system was finished off

Installed the MP60's and hooked them up to the Apex, very nice control features

This meant that It gave me a chance to start organising the electrical board

Also I knocked up a couple of 7" filter sock silencers, still need to make the other 2

Hopefully the weir glass is here soon

Bit of an update:

Finally got the coast to coast weir in......

Actually had to laminate 2 x 6mm glass to get what I wanted in the end, it worked out in the end

This meant that I could plumb in the return piping which actually runs through the weir box

After that I needed to finish the return pipes back to the main pump

I added my much needed anti siphon devices x 3 on each side, yet to be fine tuned but you get the idea

And then this is the reef flush system under the yet to be rock scape, should be around 2500gph each side

And all that rock up in the barn had to come down the same way it went up but at least I could lay it out so I could see what I had to play with.

I could start to build the support structures and get creative, well as creative as a short bald guy can be:crazy1:

It's not finished yet but the beauty with the Marco product is that time is your friend and not your enemy, oh and I'm slow and have a crook knee.....

Here's a sneak from the back with some temporary positioning for the MP60's

Wow, you are dedicated to your hobby. Can't wait to see the outcome. Based here in Basel and working on a much smaller level ;) just starting in the hobby but enjoying to watch other people live their dream and letting me follow it through this forum.

I just went thru this and looks like youve been very complete in your build. Its really interesting . I love the pics with your daughter in the tank. You should frame one of them and hang it next to the finished product when its all said and done!.

Great job so far. it makes my set up look crude. lolz

Wow.. Just wow! Very impressive and well thought out build! The tank didn't look terribly large until I saw your child in it. That really provides some perspective. This is going to be beautiful when you're done!

Thanks guys, very kind comments coming from the land of large home aquaria, really appreciated.

Got a few things to sort out over the next week and then a week away by the coast before coming back and filling the system up and kicking things off.

Finally got some QD upgrades for the MP60's so will add these as I'm keen to see (hear) the Improvements.

Now off to clean 300lbs of sand.....
