Funny thing I told u about ATI and now I am thinking of going with ATB.

Our tanks are very similar in size but you are ahead of me!

If you are interested sent me a pm and I ll tell u where I got the quote from and how much it was for their new skimmers with DC pumps!

All the best my friend.

Loukas

could you please PM me the supplier in KSA for that glass?

Hi man,

Welcome on Reef central...... and thanks for joining my thread. Its available in Jeddah. actually I am buying 12mm crystal glass from very small shop. Al Manah is the most popular name in Jeddah, but I got ***** up by them in my last built. they increased prices.

I have already discussed about 10mm and 12mm prices, it is only few hundreds difference. so I will go for 12mm starphire.

Dear Nasser,

I will try my best to get their number from their old invoices, but no promise :strange:. Actually they are quite far away from my house and it takes more than one hour to reach their place because of traffic......

ask Al-Manna in your place, might be possible they can provide you Jeddah branch contact detail.

Not much of a difference between starfire and normal glass in 12mm. If you thicker like 16 or 19mm than you will notice it. In South Africa an 800L rimless would be no less than 16mm laminated glass in starfire. I heard also that starfire not as strong as normal glass.

I agree, it is not a significant difference in appearance with glass under 12mm. You can tell when the tank is dry, but once you use LEDs, they look the same. Starphire/crystal glass does scratch easier due to the lack of iron, but glass scratches easily regardless so always have to be careful.

Crystal glass is much cheaper in UAE than North America, so many people in the glass industry buy it from UAE and ship it to NA. This goes against the trade policies of the company that manufactures Starphire (PPG), so if anyone is caught doing so, they are cut off. It is not against the law however. China is also a cheap source of crystal glass, or anything for that matter :)

In NA, more and more tanks are being made in China, even large custom ones. They are usually all crystal glass, even the bottom. Because materials are cheaper, thicker glass is used, subsequently no eurobrace or cross braces are required so they have a clean look. One manufacturer offers tanks with 45˚ mitred corners which look nicer and offer a larger and stronger bond. Cheap labour allows you to have clean silicone beads, polished edges and beveled corners everywhere.

If you are looking for tanks to import, I use a company called Fire that makes excellent tanks. I'm sure they can refer you to a distributor or retailer. http://www.fireaq.com/enmain.aspx

I have no experience about strength between high irons (Normal Glass) and Low iron (Crystal Glass).

Here is some personal experience of look. Starphire and Normal glass.

One more shot of starphire and normal glass.

There is a lot of difference between 12mm starfire and normal glass. I believe one can get better look in Starphire glass tank.

I have two small pieces of glass that I show to clients to compare (standard & Starphire/crystal). I place both of them on a sheet of white paper and it is incredible how much difference there is in clarity.

When I go to pick up the tank at the factory, I have to look at the tank for 10 minutes to convince myself that they didn't screw up and use standard glass. I usually argue with the guy for a bit and then I have to go through the same argument trying to convince my customer it is starphire/crystal :)

If you use a starphire front panel and standard sides, the green colour is carried over into the front. Quite often I go to visit peoples tanks and assume it is starphire then they tell me it is standard. There is a "clear" difference, but unless you see them side by side, bright lighting compensates for the difference.

The clarity difference between acrylic and starphire glass is as great as the difference between straphire glass and standard glass. Acrylic does scratch easier, but the scractches are easily removed. Glass is still easy to scratch and I have had many standard & starphire tanks with large scratches and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it.

ohhh, what a compliment thank you very much SYED. hope to see you soon and to create a jeddah group where we can gather all to discuss and meet.
