SYED's 200G Rimless Reef

I have had several Skimz 201 skimmers. The body design and build quality is excellent, but the Eden pumps are horrible. They don't always turn on when shut down, they vibrate and are noisy, and the impeller changes speed occasionally and floods the cup.

They may have changed the pump, as I had mine two years ago.

Thank you mr.wilson for your suggestion. I also received similar input from Leo about Skimz. See below in RED and underline:

I cannot comfortably recommend this skimmer for your size/volume reef tank. I would have to recommend a much larger skimmer for your application. On the low end, a Super Reef Octopus SRO 5000 would work well. Personally, I would us a Royal Exclusive Vertex VX-300 Alpha Cone because it has a Red Dragon pump on it. If you are looking for a nice DC powered skimmer, check out the RLSS R8-i. I've yet to run a DC powered skimmer, but I've heard good things about them. If you're are absolutely adamant about getting a SKIMZ Kone-type, go with the SK-251. It uses two ES5000 pumps, which are outstanding pumps.

The one you are looking at has the ES2800 pump now. It leaves a lot to be desired. I'd say that it would be good for a 120g tank, medium bioload. SKIMZ's numbers are inflated, big time. Great workmanship, but the numbers don't work. I know for a fact that the ES5000 pump works great on a 150-180g tank, medium bioload. If you got the SK251, you'd be quite happy with it, I'd bet.

Some more I found on RC, which helped a lot to me to know SKIMZ.

Dry Rock Collection

So here we go.

I collected some DRY ROCKS. Yes this time dry rocks instead of Live rock from the sea.

Dry rocks generally easier to aquascape with and NORMALLY don't run the risk of introducing unwanted pests such as algaes, aiptasias, crabs, etc.

I had experience of cleanest live rocks commonly have bubble algea, astrinas, mojano's and other pests, which make problems later on.

I washed all the rocks one by one with strong pressured fresh water to remove unwanted rubble and detritus.

Curing Rocks:

After washing it with strong pressured freshwater I kept in old tank. The rocks will stay in this tank for one week with fresh water, in-cause it release Nitrate or Phosphate. Strong circulation Pumps, Skimmer and activated Carbon will add once I will shift them in salt water.
