I just received my new tank with a 20" Synergy reef overflow..i also had a sock box /sump built ..the 2 bulk heads on my sockbox are 1" this is were my drains from my overflow will be dumping into..,the synergy overflow is 1.5...my question is were would you reduce the pipe to 1" ?would it be wise to continue the 1.5 pipe right up to the sump then reduce it to the 1"gate valve.?or should I reduce it right out the overflow box at the bulkheads.i also have a pretty long horizontal run to the other side of my sump, from what I've read this can cause issues ..any advise would be greatly appreciated

Nor really sure I'm banning on using my panworld with is 1200 gph at 39' head.the run will be about 3 ft so I'm thinking .i would be getting ruffly 1100

I would reduce it at the sump. I have 1.5 out of mine and have same size gate valve which is basically the same as reducing to 1"

I could be wrong, but with a drain you're always limited by the smallest fitting. Since your sump input is 1", I would downsize directly after the overflow box. No sense in installing larger/heavier pipe if it will get bottlenecked anyhow.

I would downsize at the overflow box. At the end of the day it really makes no difference but 1" pipe is cheaper and easier to route.
