I just moved to the syracuse area for schooling. Environmental technology at OCC. I was wondering if there is a reef club in this area, as Id like to meet other local reefers and trade ideas, advice and friendship. Anyone know of a local club thats going, and if not is there any interest in getting one started?

I think this is pretty much it. ABC Reefs seems to be the local favorite shop. The underground stuff I'm aware of, goes down right here. Any more info you'd like to share about yourself, feel free!

WELCOME!

One thing to be aware of in URS is that you will need to have THICK skin!! Most are harmless though. It's the few that are real crazies that you want to be careful of.

syracuse area here , so i guess you could call me part of the local syracuse reef underground....

yea...

we're cool...

BTW I neglected to say WELCOME aboard! The reef community in upstate is amazing. The knowledge base is unsurpassed anywhere. Please tell us all what you have going on.

Let the URS feats of strength begin!!

YES!

What would they include? Picking an empty 65g tank from the floor on to a stand by yourself? How many 5 gallon buckets of seawater can you huff up 2 flights of stairs in 5 mins?

Ok sorry, I have been searching for replies to this post and didnt realize there is a NY reef and upstate forum. Anyhow, let me start by saying thanks for all the info! I am a deadhead yes, but also grateful for my reef =) I have Jerry Garcia tattooed on my arm, never got to see him bc of age, but I have extensively listened to his work, including JGB new riders, etc. About my tank...(pretty much upgrading everything over the next year aside from the tank itself)

Basic asst of beginner/intermediate corals. Have a few diff mushrooms, tongas, lavenders, green stripe. A couple diff toadstools one purple, one pink. A leather frag with green extended polyps. A couple diff button polyps, red sands, and yellow. GSP, and a few nems. 1 red/green mini carpet and 2 condys. I think that covers everything heres a couple shots of my tank.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcomes! Look forward to meeting people and talking turkey, or rather...fish tanks. =) by the way just had my red jewel cichlids spawn, there looks to be about 200+ babies, assuming some of them survive and anyone has a freshwater tank Id be looking to rehome them, free! Id rather they didnt get turned into fish/nem food, but honestly they may end up being that here in my own home, it will be a couple of weeks til I know if there will be survivors but if youre interested just shoot me a PM and I can let you know how things are going.
