T5 ballasts run hot?

Do they run hot? I have a new one for my Maristar fixture. It's not exact, but was one of the ones the company recommended. It won't fit in the old space exactly. Do I have to drill holes, or can I use zip ties? Or do they run too hot, thereby melting them or causing a hazard???

Mine do get very warm, I can still touch them but not for very long.

I don't think it would melt plastic, but a couple a new holes and sheet metal screws will be a cleaner solution.
