T5 lighting and Bubble Tip Anemone

Hey All..

it's been a while since i've posted as my 65g FOWLR (softies) tank has been running smooth..

A few weeks back i put a bubble tip anemone in the tank and it seems like its doing well.. feeding it cocktail shrimp pieces 2x weekly..

A friend with the same setup was talking to his LFS and they said T5 lighting is not powerful enough for the anemone and it will die within a month ?

Thoughts ? i'm verging on a month and it seems ok ?

Please help

RONNY

Are you using reflectors? I have a T5 setup with reflectors but have been afraid to try anemones. Please let me know how it goes.

Really depends on the T5's but T5's in most cases are plenty for any anemone. How many bulbs, are they HO, what fixture/reflectors?

I think it would be fine depending on reflectors(one reflector = to PC individual reflector = very good out put.)If its a 65 I would think you would want to have a min of 4 watts per gallon for a Bubble Tip Anemone. Some say less I always say more just like being safe than sorry.

My lfs has a rbta in a stock nc24 display tank. That convinced me to put one in mine, tho I've added another 36w pc and diy reflectors to my nc. So far so good...

T5's are lots of light for a BTA. Calfo uses shoplights and 10,000k bulbs in his holding tanks for divisions...

T5s will be plenty. I have a GBTA under PCs and it has lasted 4 months! BUT, it is only surviving. T5s in the next week or two for sure!

T5's are great, best/ind. parabolic reflectors, it'll be fine.

I kept rbta's for about four years under a bank of six zoomed™ 48" 32watt t8's / simple flat coralife™ reflector in a 18"x18"x72" aquarium 'till i had all i could take of E. quadricolor. I keep clones in holding baskets lit by one 65w lights of america PC spotlight from the home depot. BTA's don't require typical Acropora sps levels, they'll do fine under levels suitable for lps and softies.

Implemented correctly, t5's are perfect for them.

+1 They will work. Individual reflectors are best as already stated.

T5's will work for BTA's - but probably not for other anemones (depending on depth of aquarium, proximity to bulbs, etc). Remember that light diminishes based on the square of the distance, so closer is much better than farther :)

I have seen BTA's live and reproduce under regular 40watt actinic / 40 watt daylight flourescents, but these anemones were close to the surface of the water.

..I currently have a 29 gal AGA drilled w/ a custom acrylic 12 gal. sump. 40 lbs. of LR a very fine layer of sand. & Koralia 2. Tunze return & a HUGE skimmer. the tank has been cycling for about a month.(when fully cycled ) I plan on putting in a pair of Black & White Ocellaris Clownfish - Tank-Bred & hope for an anemone...my question is with the lighting -my fixture is:Current USA 30" Sundial
T-5 Fixture 4x24W (total 96 watt)
..question 1 what type of NEM is possible with that light?
..question 2 what is the general rule of thumb for wattage per gallon for soft corals etc?
