T5's and a 40 Br. ?

I currently have a 40br on my desk at work with a jbj formosa 2x96watt pc. The bulbs need to be replaced shortly but I was just offered a T5 Tek 8x39watt s/u for $200. The actinics (4) will have to be replaced in about 6 mo and the daylight bulbs (4) in about 1 year. Not keeping SPS and heat is a concern for this office tank. Any thoughts?
Thanks, Bill

im saving up for T5 on my 29 gallon, put away some b day money, adn chrsitmas, and other stuff, ge ta job over the summer, i should have them by next school year, haha i can wait for it though

I would jump on it. If it gets too hot(probably will not) just add a small 4" fan to disapate the heat and create more evaporative cooling.

Thats alot of light!! Especially if your not doing sps.

I have the 6 bulb Teklight on my 40 breeder and that is plently of light even for sps.

If you keep it pretty high up though, it should be ok. You will definatly have more light than you will need.

Most corals, even softies, live under lighting far greater than we could ever reproduce. I do not think it will pose any problems longterm. Of course you will not want to mount them as low as your existing light fixture at first. Over time you could slowly lower them to where you want them. Or, If they have independent controls you could start them off with four bulbs and turn the others on gradually over a period of weeks.
