Tahitian Butterfly fish

Small update on our filefish. He certainly is eating aptasia- there was one in his usual 'hang out' spot under the returns that is now gone.

He cruises around in a very interesting fashion. I'm glad we got him, he reminds me of our blenny we lost last week.

The materials that came with Blue Zoo were awesome- now I have an additional drip line(with a suction). I am very impressed with their service and will buy again from them in the future... I kind of want to get a harlequin since I have an asterina problem.

I got to see Reef Happy's tanks today, and man was I impressed! He showed me his file fishes and told me their job. I'm now thinking I might add this fish to my tank. Are they safe with Yellow Watchman Goby, False Perc, and Blue Chromis? I also just have some small frags; SPS and LPS, which most are in danger from my ever growing aiptasia problem...my tank is 34g, I think I can add one more small fish like this without too much load on the tank.

Where should I buy a small one from, same place you all did? Wished I had seen this thread or talked to Reef Happy before you all ordered, I might have taken part.

Oh well, your thoughts on if I should get this fish?

I got the tiny Filefish for my Solana. So far he is doing good and cruising the tank. They are very shy fish and keep to there own. You should be fine adding one to your tank. And yes I would recommend getting it from Blue Zoo they were awesome with our order.

Thanks Pudge. I'll go check them out. Once I get these pests gone, and figure out why I'm not doing so well with my SPS growth, I'll probably talk to Reef Happy again about getting some frags from him. Although I'd like to get some bigger coral in the tank to give it some real LIFE look.

After they eat the pests, what will be their food of choice? Same stuff I feed the other fish? I'm guessing I should not feed my other fish till I give this guy a few days to find the aiptasia and dig in?

Nice meeting you TriggerHappy. Yea a small file fish would go good in your tank and should be okay with all your fish. So far I have no issues with the fish. I think they are amussing to watch. And if you do a order with Blue zoo I think you will be pleased. I think it is free shipping with $120.00 orders.

Yeah he will eat w/e. When I feed my fish I see him grabbing some pieces of mysis and brine. Just hope he doesn't take a liking to it b4 he eats the aptasia

Anyone have the filefish with zoanthids? I read they are likely to go after the zoas. I need help with the aiptasia in my tank and am considering one of these guys since everyone seems to be having such good luck.

So far he hasn't gotten close to them. And the aptasia are slowly disapearing. Really cool and fun to watch cause they swim sort a wierd. Think I'm going to name him Ugmug cause he's so cute

Too late to put a order in for a small one?

Anthony, we might get a head count on how many would want the little filefish. You might head up the next group order if there are enough out there that want to purchase them or anything else from Blue Zoo. Just a thought. I think we are all pleased with the customer service and how they went way above the mark on the reorder. Or you might wait and take Glenn up on the loan offer.

Any updates from anyone on the filefish and if they are taking care of aptasia?

Well, I can say these are great fish.. I have two filefish together in a frag tank that had several hundred aptasia and now there is not even one in this tank. That is alot of eating after only being in the tank for 3 weeks. I am not noticing that they are picking around on any coral/zoas.

Mine is doing well It has taken him a little while to really start eating the aptasia but they are definately disapearing. So far he has left corals alone and is a model citizen in the tank. :)

Sadly I lost mine a week or 2 ago :-/ I think he was just weak from the get go. But I think I'm going to try to get another one or 2 in the next couples of weeks to come.

OK that File fish has completely devestated the aptasia in my tank. In fact I can't find any at all except in the overflow. Which I plan on scraping out and feeding to him.:)
