so what really happens when the lights go out?
HOLY ****...........TALK ABOUT THINGS THAT GO BUMP! IN THE NITE
theres some weird stuff goin on in there
its funny the more i look at my tank
( you know LOOK at my tank)
the more it concerns me every time i have to stick my hand in that water

I recently saw a 6 inch Purple and Pink Bristleworm eating what was left of my Cyano.

Also a Purple and Black Striped worm that came out of my LR and went into the sand ... I actually got a pic of it, check out the LR on the right.

When I was cycling my old tank I kept the lights off in fear of an algea bloom. I came home one day and turned on the living room light to see a serpant star the size of the palm of my hand right on the front of the glass. It quickly dropped to the sand and crawled for cover in the rocks. That was a surprize.

My 300 gallon had been setup for over a 18 months and I still find "Ninja" occupants...Get a small red lens flashlight, doesn't bother the inhabitants as much.

It's a good thing to go looking past midnight: you can find out which corals are too close to each other, what your sand is crawling with, how healthy your pods are, and the fact that there's a thing the size of an Indian cobra living in your live rock.

I regularly check out the tank after dark. It's a lot of fun to see some of the spaghetti worms, the sweepers on the LPS and lots of other cool things.

whatever that thing is in the second picture I have one in my 20L too. looks a lot like an elephant's trunk.

 elephant's trunk ... that's a good description! Mine is so long it comes out of the rock and buries it's mouth deep in the sand bed foraging for food :D

Yep, gotta be the same thing then. That's exactly what mine does. Seems to be premanently attached to the LR at one end in a little cave. I think mine extends about 4" to the sand.

yup it's definitely attached cuz it lives and comes out from the same hole :P ... well that's cool man if you get a chance post a pic we'll compare :lol2:

those are peanut worms im pretty sure, i have them too, i split some live rock and found the base of one, its really hard. weird thing. my cleaner shrimp ate it once it became completely exposed

My dad finally caught a 12" worm in his 20 gallon. It crawled out from a rock and he scooped it with a back scatcher. Dumped it in a bottle and gave it to me.
Have him in my 10 gallon. When he comes out I will grab a pic.

Whe I enjoy more my tank. (or use to ) was at night. I had does head flashlight for kit and got a piece of red acrilic and intall it. It was the best I ever did. I saw more think in my tank at night that I never though they could excicts in the entire world.
