Tamarin Wrasse Primer.

Hey, I recently just got one and is quarantine now! Doing really well and is around 2 inches.
Introducing to my tank in a few weeks but is eating food strongly and putting on weight! Eats mostly mysis at the moment.
Heres a recent video :)

Thanks for sharing this :) looks great! I ordered a red tail tamarin and she is in QT right now. As this is my first tamarin I will wait how she is doing before ordering the blue spotted.

Can you please keep us posted with your blue spotted? :)

Good luck with your red tail! they look stunning! Any chance you have a video or pics of yours? :D

Looks like I'm joining the club...

Got surprised with this today, and two potters to boot. I'm excited, but nervous. I've owned leopards before, but this is my first tamarin...

any updates?

here is my newest addition..it will be joining a yellow tail in the DT in a few weeks...

Pretty!

I just added a Twistii to my display...Juvinile that was in QT for 3 weeks, so hopefully he won't get bullied too much longer...Day 2, he hung in there....

thanks Ralph...it's still in it's acclimation tank, and finally taking mysis and other frozen foods, Larry's, Rods etc... it only took six days.

any updates?

What's up Ralph?

I'm not sure if I have an update or not. All 3 wrasses were doing just fine, then I began covering my QT to keep out all light and removing it when the lights on my DT come on. I was doing this to acclimate them to my lighting schedule (4:30PM-Midnight). This was important because I observe all of my fish to make sure they are eating and getting enough to thrive.

Well, as soon as I covered the glass, all wrasses went for the substrate. One of the potters wrasse is doing just fine. The other potters wrasse emerged and died 3 days later. The tamarin hasn't revealed herself since I covered the glass a week ago. I have no CUC in the QT, and check for ammonia every other day. Part of me thinks she is still hiding out since I haven't had an ammonia spike. The other side of me thinks she may have died in the substrate. I want to dig her up, and check, but don't want to stress her. I've heard of leopards hiding for up to two weeks before. I've started prazi treatment for the potters. If my tamarin ever shows herself I'll decide whether or not I'll re-treat...

Thanks for checking...

as said many times before just give them time to come out as that is just so much less stressful to them .they do come out when your not around and sneak back under many times when you return. remember they just got caught and removed from the ocean from someone that looked just like you so they are very weary of humans in the beginning of their glass cage life .let nature take its course and it will be much easier on them .

Thanks, Man. There's so much uncertainty with these fish, it's good to get some reassurance. There's several pods in the QT with them, so if she is coming out while I'm not around, at least she has access to food...

soooo....who's getting her later today?

I would but I am moving. No way going to chance a $1k fish during the move. I hate Kevin..it's like he read my wrasse wishlist and sells them right when I am about to move lol! Also, she may get to 9in. in size. I like smaller fish anyway...yeah that's it!

So, in the beginning of January, I put together a 10 gallon QT tank with HOB bio-wheel filter, heater, Seachem Matrix for 40% of the substrate, and sugar fine sand for the 60% with a little power-head and a couple of rocks...

So here is my new cutie in QT Tank...It's a Yellow Breasted Tamarin Wrasse, aka, Anampses Twistii

A LFS near me has a lennardi's and femininus for $650.00. If my hands weren't full with the potters and tamarin, I'd be all over them...
