I just picked up a used one of these off ebay. It got here today and I had to find something to try it out on. This is my first pro lens and I think I will be using it for my walk around lens. At first glance, very big, and fairly heavy. I removed my battery pack to try to get the weight down. It helped, some. Here's a pic next to a 55-200 nikon VR.

A couple pics with the lens.

Yes, I went to a cemetary. The first one is a pic on a tombstone. The second, Mary. This is her eye.

Very sharp. It's focus speed doesn't keep up with the newer AFS lenses, but it isn't too far behind. Build quality is excellant. I think I'm gonna enjoy this. Hopefully it won't rain tomorrow.

Not too shabby there Jesse! Now if I could just as easily decide on my lens choice as you have yours then I'd be in business!

You say the new lens is heavy.....define heavy. How does the camera balance with it on?

Oh, and nothing wrong with cemetery photography! I used to do it all the time in college because we had some very cool old cemeteries near by.

Weight is about 2 pounds. It's really not that bad. The balance is good. Doesn't seem to have any lens creep.

Oh, I like cemetaries. This one kinda sucks because it's on a main highway. I've got one I want to shoot at but I'm still waiting for the right time of day to be there. I stopped on the way to the grocery store to pick up fish for dinner. "She" thought I was gone too long.

LOL! Yeah, I've had that same problem. Although generally mine is "where'd you go? We already saw all this stuff and want to go over there next. Wadda ya mean you stayed there this whole time?! *sigh* Fine, hurry up aready."

At least my other half enjoys photography though. That counts for a lot :D

My wif loves it also. I couldn't get her to want to use my old d40. She has a P&S Nikon Coolpix S52. It's a pretty nice camera for a P&S. Even has VR. She thought the d40 was too much to carry around when we went out on trails, so she wouldn't use it. For a better zoom from our patio, she even takes pics through a telescope. She's gotten pretty good at it.

At least that allowed me to get rid of the d40 so I could get my new lens.
