Tang Combinations

Need some advice. Getting ready to stock a 180 and will eventually add tangs.. Most likely last!

Here is what I am thinking but would like suggestions, advice or alternatives.

Blue Tang
Yellow Tang
Powder Brown
Powder Blue
Lavender Tang

I understand the Powder Blue can be a bully? Any better suggestions? I am going for color.

I would skip the powder brown. There could be some issues in a 180 having both a powder blue and brown tang.

My powder brown actually beat my yellow tang to death.. they can be very aggressive. I would avoid it altogether, and go for maybe blue tang, yellow tang, and lavender tang.

I would pass on a Hepatus tang in a 180. I feel like they need more room. Yellow and a lavender would be fine. I would recommend the bristletooth tangs. White tail bristletooths are showstoppers.

To me that seems like a lot of tangs in a 180.
But I concur that Powder Blue and Powder Brown will be a problem. Eventually you may find the Blue is just too aggressive for that size tank.
Yellow, lavender would look nice and a Bristle Tooth, Orange Shoulder or Kole will add some variety.

No Hippo Tang (requires 8ft tank). I would not do the Powder Blue as they can become very aggressive with limited space. In that tank, I would do the Yellow Tang and the Lavendar Tang.

tangs in my 180

tangs in my 180

I have a black and Sailfin in my 180 gallon mixed reef. They get along well with only an occasional stare down.

How about this combination

Blue Tang
Yellow Tang
Purple Tang
Lavender Tang
Sailfin Tang

You're fine with a blue tang in a 6 foot 180g. However, I'm not sure you are okay with three zebrasomas... I have a feeling the purple would be awfully aggressive towards the yellow and sailfin.

Darn it, I was trying to stay out of this one.

Both sailfin species Z. velifer and Z. desjardinii get too large for a 180. 15" long, and also that tall.

I would do 3 from different genera: yellow, lavender, kole.
