Tang Compatibility!

I think we are all adults. To have a fish and knowing treat it bad is wrong. But giving a fish a good home doing your best to keep it alive is what we all strive for. There is no handbook only results. Anyone who keeps a fish alive more than 5 years is doing an excellent job. I would say less than .5 precent of fish that come from the wild make it to 5 years. For some jerk on reef to tell us we are wrong is moronic When people ask you for your advice give it but for those of us who don't ask keep it to yourself

But people ask, just like in this thread.

I've never once in my life ever addressed this topic before, whether solicited or unsolicited. I was always like "whatever".

And there are plenty of handbooks.

Now I see the point of the Tang Police.

Last point I will make the same website that states 110 gallon min size fit tang also state you need 20 hermits 20 red hermits 3 shrimps 2 emerald crabs and so on. We have to agree most of those packs are way over stated. If you buy one of those most will just kill each other off. So same site that's is correct with respect to the tang is incorrect with the cuc. Can't have it both ways

Are there numerous published experts with tons of information who provide a decent range of guidelines for virtually every aspect of aquaria aspects?

Yes or no.

You mean those same experts who says dna evidence was 100 percent correct Don't believe everything you read and only half of what you see. You see the thing about experts. There always changing there tune when new information comes out

We as hobbiest should all strive to improve this hobby.

Okay. I won't believe everything I read, like this.

So what would the experts say about 2 fairy wrasses, hippo tang, kole tang, bi color dottyback clown , pink spot goby and 2 lyetail antheis in a 57. Also never quarantined a fish Experts would say impossible. But I change my wTer every 4 days.

If you can come back in 2 years, and show me pictures of success, you can change the rules. Success is years, not months. If you have kept all the fish alive and well, after two years... Kudos to you.

This thread makes me sick. There will be people who don't want to stick to the rules for the welfare of the animal. These people will fight tooth and nail to make sure they are right. Arguing isn't going to change someone's mind. Leave the computer and take a walk :)
P.S: not trying to start a war, but we need to realize arguing won't change anyone's mind. I'm glad that this thread is here, however IBTL..
Have a good day!!

Do you guys do this because you're broke but still want a tank full of fish? Is it a money thing?

Broke this tank cost me about 5000 bucks. Hell 250 worth of fish jumped out of my tank before I hit a lid. I was told clownfish don't jump got a pair of designer clowns 5 days later one jumped out plus a goby did the same day I got him. I found out the hard way all fish can jump I had all my fish for 15 months or more. Don't think keeping fish alive for 15 months is fly by night. And my corals are doing well except for a stupid mistake I put the timer on at 9pm and off at 910 am. Lost both my clams a few sps But that wasn't a tank size thing. Was me being stupid. My calcium got to 1100 before I caught it.

I would take what websites out there have as suggestions to tank size and stocking suggestions (they are after all in the buisness of selling) with less than a grain of salt. I think its funny that some are being labeled as "tang police" because they have constructive , EDUCATED opinions on what should and shouldn't be done. I guess it boils down to what sort of home you want to provide for anything that you consider a pet. Does that mean the bare minimum, less is more type attitude or the strive to provide the best for your pet, whatever that may be. Maybe the disconnect if because they are fish and (some) people don't get emotionally attached to fish? There are many reasons why the lifespan in this hobby is less than 3 years, bad husbandry is just one of them

So keeping a 2 inch hippo tang is a 3 or 4 foot tank is cruel. But keeping a 9 inch one in a 8 isn't. Ps saying your opinion is educated and constructive doesn't make it true. A 55 is fine for a baby hippo. To say I won't rehome it. Or that buying a fish to rehome it in 2 to 3 years is stupid is your opinion not fact But I will say this topic is getting stupid. I'll keep the fish I want you keep the fish you want. You can call me cruel, broke any other thing you want. But at the end of the day does it really matter. I believe I am an experience educated hobbiest who had the fishes best interest in heart. Heck who knows I might actually be more experienced than those telling me I can't do it or might be less. Doesn't matter because the hippo is staying in my tank until I decide it's no longer a good fit or idea to stay in there

Yes I know one day the day will come. I actually know this but baby fish don't need as big of a tank as big fish

I actually breed discus the recommend 75 as minimum size but I start the Babies out in a 5 gallon then the 2 inch ones go to a 30 long. I feed like crazy and smaller tanks are easier to clean

Careful... Stating this opinion, though true, will bring some serious bashing

Very nice tank. Don't you know angels aren't reef safe and no yellow tangs unless you have 250 gallon tank. Lol

What kind of butterfly fish are those. There nice. What size tank. It's beautiful
