Tang Disease identification

Hi,

I have a new tang in quarantine and a weird looking growth has appeared on his mouth and is getting larger. I'm having trouble identifying the issue to treat. If you could help me identify the problem and how to medicate it would be greatly appreciated as i think he's not eating because of this.

It could be a bacterial infection of a wound, a tumor or lymphocystis.

With Lymphocystis I would also expect to see such grows on the rims of the fins - but it doesn't have to be.
However Lymphocystis nodules grow relatively slow and wouldn't appear over night.
The same applies usually for a tumor.

A bacterial infection is probably the most likely cause.

A broad-spectrum antibiotic like kanamycin would be the next step.

This looks exactly like what my clown tang had. I couldn't get it identified in time and died within 3 days. Hopefully you can get it diagnosed soon. I still don't know what it was. I had other tangs and fish in the tank and were not effected. Good luck.

I don't think it is the same.
Your tang had a well advanced Amyloodinium or Brooklynelly infection maybe with some Cryptocaryon mixed in too.
On top of that he most likely had also a serious secondary bacterial infection. That fish would have needed immediate treatment against all to have a 50-50 chance.

I'm not sure exactly what it is, but every time I've seen it the fish died. I would start treating with formalin dips and then into an antibiotic bath.

thanks everyone, going to try the dip and and see if he gets any better.

Another question - there is another fish in QT with him. do you think i should separate them ASAP to avoid a chance of infecting the other fish?
