I was on the fence about suggesting this as well. As juveniles they lack the shoulder marking, have a full white tail, and are pretty grey. I really hate to say this, but you are going to need to let the fish grow out a bit more before getting a positive ID. At this stage it is going to be a "best guess"...

Yeah I think ur right I wonder if it will grow I had him when he was small in a 75 gallon frag tank then I upgraded my system and I added him to my 300 and once I did that he had a growth spurt .does he look like a tang that would get larger

Yes, definitely one of the very large Acanthurus tangs. How big is he now?

He's about 5 inches .it actually may be the black shoulder I just looked it up only thing missing on him is the black shoulder mark does that come later on here's a pic I found online and tge secound is mine
