So i read in a book that i can set up a small tank in the sun light or with light over it put low /no flow with rocks in it to create algea for my mimic tang to graze on. Now is this the best method to create algea to graze on. I dont want my tang to solely rely on me for food its like my mandarins they are pigs.

Whats ur set up to create algea razing rocks

Hmm seems like putting the cart before the horse growing algae for the tang to eat..If it's around they will graze depending what kind of tang it is..But get a veggie clip and put it in the tank, has to be way better nutrition then hair algae anyway..

do you already have the tang?
is it in a reef aquarium or fish only?

most folks here have algae growing in their reef aquarium with no special care put into growing it :)

I have him in a reef setup im going to he posting pics soon of system. Is a 6 footer125 total400 g system ive never had algea in any of my systems. So i need to add it l.

i've got a bunch growing in the 55g aggressive. you are welcome to all of it...but my advice is the veggie clip and nori.

what book recommended that?

Strong lighting will encourage algae growth in your reef aquarium. Obviously, some type of algae will need to be introduced into the system. Algae usually hitchhikes in on liverock. If your Tang (what kind of mimic?) picks at (seemingly) bare rock it's actually grazing on microalgae growing on the rock.

A Tangs body (and belly area) should be fully rounded- not pinched.
Acanthurus Tangs (which include all of the mimic species) should be constantly swimming and grazing. Keep water movement in their aquarium brisk.

nice fish- I used to have one. Chocolate Tang (Acanthurus pyroferus) is a Lemonpeel mimic. Good choice for your 125 IMO. Run your reef lighting for 12 hours a day and maintain good water movement while supplementing it's diet with nori etc. and you should be alright with it.

K sounds good ill have to get some nori. Any local places have nori sheets? I used red and blue julian sprungs garlic sheets tang goes crazy for them.
