by the way, a question for those who keep multiple tangs

i'm in the process of adding another 125 gal. reef with mostly softies and lps's connected to a 75 gal. refugium.

any input on these combinations?

an achilles
a hybrid kole
a blue hippo
**the achilles, kole, and hippo are wish list.... did not get them yet
a purple
a bellus angel
a red spotted blenny
a maroon clown
(above fishes are all about 4 inches)
a mystery wrasse- 2"
a mc corsker's flasher- 2"
a fathead anthias- 2"
a cleaner wrasse- 3" (and before anyone jump on me about the cleaner, it was rescued from a neighbor who was sold one as part of the "cleaning crew" to help heal a "nemo" with a pop eye... for a 12 gal. aquapod with 4 other fish....1 fish per 2 gal. formula!!!).

too many tangs? too many fish? have 8 now would like 11 total.

regarding the tangs, I have never heard of/seen a hybrid Kole, the achilles is a notoriously difficult species, and the blue will outgrow the 125 eventually. Adding any tang with an established purple is probably gonna be tough.

Agree with above statement. And one thing to add is that an achillies willl out grow that tank in no time as well.

oh i forgot to mention all the details. this is a "new" tank set up, all the existing fishes are in various tanks. all the live rocks, coral, sump, refugium, etc. will come from various tanks as well. and some of those has been running for over 5 years. the wish list tangs and other tank mates will be temporarily in the 125 while a custom tank approximately 500 gal. is being set up/ built along with a new addition to the walkout basement....hopefully with in a year and a half. the 125 will eventually be a frag grow out/ qt tank. i'm trying to combine 7 tanks into 3 with 2 of them connected to the same ~300 gal. sump/fuge. and one(the 125) will be on its own system. now that said, how long do you think i can keep 8-11 fish in the 125? the addition will take approximately a year to complete but i'm giving an extra 6 months of delays/inspections/fish room construction, etc.

once all the plans are completed i should have a total of 1,000+gal. of room for various sea creatures :D a swimming pool style indoor salt water pond did cross my mind but the town won't go for 2 swimming pools/indoor pond on one property....some wacky ordinance...they are a bunch of poopers.

i have the kole on hold at the local lfs. will try to get pics. when i have the time. i was told it could be an odd color kole or a hybrid with some thing like a lavender tang??? it's about 4 inch, peach/pink/lavender color, young adult, with kole markings and gold rim around the eyes.
jmaneyapanda, you know i like hybrids, odd color, something different from the norm. i posted the pics. of the blue spotted tail hybrid lemonpeel (from the same lfs) that you want. if i decide to let it go, i'll let you know.

the achilles and the blue hippo are the "store pets" which had been in the show tank at the lfs for over a year and they are super healthy( but they remain at about 4 "... didn't grow much...i've been watching them). the owner was more than willing to give them up since i got some buyers for his premium livestocks: gem tangs, black tangs, crosshatch triggers, clarion angels ( i don't think any of them are worth the money but hey if you can afford it, more power to ya) and boat load of premium corals. i can have any (reasonably priced- non exotic) livestocks from the store including ones from the show tank, many of them for free:D

wow nice collection pulpos, how big is the tank??... and tomtoothdoc, i would love to see a pic of that hybrid. never herd of one but would love to see it....

i'll take a trip to the lfs this tuesday and get a pic of the kole to post. they are open tomorrow but being mother's day.....the wife won't be too happy if i were to disappear for awhile. everytime i go there, i ended up spending hours and hours talking to other reefers.

I would love to see a pic. Many times, certain Acanthurus sp. tangs are misidentified by hobbyists/retailers as Ctaenochaetus sp tangs. They have similarity, but there are certainly different tangs.

Yeah, let me know about the hybrid. Thanks, buddy.
