Tang Pics!

In Memoriam
Here is a few of mine...they are the reason I got into the hobby. And before everyone says I have too many and that they will get too big for my tank...I already know. Some are already sold to a buddy of mine setting up a 350 in the next month or two.

The reason I have so many is because I'm like a rescue for big tangs that otherwise would be in TINY tanks. Granted my tank is only a 180, but it's better than the 29 I rescued the Vlamingi from.

Speaking of the Vlamingi, is that indeed what I have? Or is he the Lopezi Blue Spot?

Now let me see pics of your tangs!!!

Right now I have 7 total...

Yellow Tang
Desjardini Sailfin Tang
Unicorn Tang
Vlamingi Tang (awaiting confirmation)
Mata Tang
Orange Shoulder Tang
Chocolate Tang

The yellow was given to me and I hated having him in my 40 breeder fuge so I put him in the 180 until I bring him back to the store. The Vlamingi was rescued from a 29!!

Here is my Mata Tang (Acanthurus Mata) or 'Elongate Surgeonfish' in the middle bottom of pic. Also pictured is the Yellow, Orange Shoulder and Unicorn.

Very nice tangs can we get some more pics of the orange shoulder. I will later post a pic of my sailfin in my 90. When my sailfin gets to big iam planning on selling it and getting a orange shoulder for it.

And here is the convict...

He undergoes almost as much of a color change as the orangeshoulder... except his belly remains completely white...

The "vlamingi or lopezi" question was also asked by myself a little while ago. Here's the link.

The conclusion I drew is that your fish (same as mine) is what is most commonly called vlamingi. There seems to be a lot of confusion in literature and online. I've seen images labelled "adult vlamingi" that have very different colours than the blue-spotted ones that we commonly see in the trade...yet the vlamingis we see have blue spots and seem to stay that way regardless of how large they get.

I've not seen anyone post an image of anything different than the fish that look just like yours and mine.

180

180

Hi Atlantic Blue I love the tank. I am thinking about upgrading my 100 to a 180. I was wondering what type of lights you have on yours and how many especially if they are metal halides.

For the moment I have a Current USA fixture on the 180. It is 3x250 DE HQI with T5's. I like it but have found out by some reading here on RC that my reflectors suck. lol I'm looking into selling it and making my own setup with better reflectors/bulbs.

Thor and rioshilo great pictures of your orange shoulder. Quesions for both of you. What size are your tanks? What size is the tang? What do you feed them? How is there behavior? and last but not leats. Do you think i can put one in a 90g?

P.S. thor32766 that is one gorgeous Orange Shoulder Tang! I can't wait til mine grows up and changes from his yellow coloration. Same goes for my Chocolate Tang...his adult coloration is gorgeous.

And myerst2...love the PBT! I'd love to have one myself as I'm sure I can sustain one (well oxygenated water...flow flow flow) but I just don't have the room. Plus I have too many Acanthurus tangs as it is. I have 3 Acanthurus, 2 Zebrasoma, and 2 Unicorns! But my new stand is delivered tomorrow...so the tank will be broken down for the swapping of the stand and at that time I am seperating them.

Here's some more pics...
