Tang selection help

Hi -

Looking to add tangs and wondering which selection will get along with each other the best and how the tank size is suited for them.

Ultimately, I would love to have 3 tangs total in a 6' 180g from the following selection:

Purple
Powder Blue
Kole
Chevron
Powder Brown
Scopas
Sailfin

Thanks for helping me plan....

If it were me, I'd select the purple, powder blue and Chevron. Differing colors and shapes. Red Sea sailfins are great looking as well.

I believe the three I mentioned are all from different families (someone will surely correct me if I'm wrong) so I wouldn't anticipate too much aggression. I'd add them all once if possible.

Good luck.

That is the selection I had picked as well (mostly for looks). I think I can QT them together. Using TTM with 20l tanks and seeded filter floss and then into a 40 for prophylactic treatment over 3-4 weeks.

Looks like they are all from the same family: Acanthuridae (according to LiveAquaria)

They are in a different genus, all tangs are the same family. The purple and blue are aggressive. Purples are usually some of the most aggressive tangs behind clown and sohal.

From that list I would do chevron, powder brown (more hardy than blue), and scopas (slightly smaller than sailfin). That combo should be the least aggressive. I would also look into a chocolate mimic or orange shoulder instead of some of the other choices.

Process of elimination ....

Sailfin gets too large for a 6' tank, so that's out. Purple and scopas are both zebras, so pick the better looking one, so scopas is out. Kole and chevie are both bristles, so pick one - Chevie slightly prettier, but more expensive - so Kole is out. Powders are both acanthurus, so pick one (I prefer the blue), so the brown is out.

So, Purple, Chevron and Powder Blue ..... easy.
