Tang tank mate w\ a Yellow Tang

Just Reefin'
So i have a 150G 60x24x24 and just have a single tang right now.. Any other tangs that would be a good combo with this guy? He's very docile, and I realize that can change at any time, but in general for the size tank and shape of the yellow tang, who else "should" play well?

I'd like to add another tang if possible.. Thank you!

Sailfin tangs get really big.

I like my tomini tang :) The grey/gold contrast is nice, and the white tail is a bonus. Plus, he is always out and swimming.

I do like the kole actually.. nice color difference from what I have right now. I plan on some point to add a Bellus Angel so want to make sure they will all at least theoretically play well.

We had a powder blue at one point, but beat up a bellus female when we added her... The powder blue is now gone and the yellow tang was as nice as could be when we had introduced the bellus.

Thank guys, any other opinions I would appreciate hearing them!

If you want something a little more rare, I have been seeing the white-tail bristletooth pop in from time to time lately. They can be a little tricky though from what I've read.

The yellow will be docile until another tang is added. A small bristletooth maybe the best route.

We had a hippo and a powder blue in here and the powder blue ran the tank.. The other two have been removed, so now it's just the yellow tang.. He never bothered anyone, but that of course can change at any moment... I get that.

I would recommend the bristletooths. They are pretty small for a tang and have very nice color patterns. If you want to make sure everyone gets along and you dont have to go through attempting to catch one of these fast fish again use an acclimation box.

Thank you! I need to get an acclimation box, but I'm still riding out this cyano I'm dealing with.. When this is all said and done I will start thinking about fish additions.

I would not have remove the Powder Blue tang. Was he that agressive to the oher tangs? Cause injury?
I like the Power Brown (A. japonicus) Powder Blue, Atlantic Blue tang, Yellow and Purple. Powder blue and Purple need to be added last since they are the most agressive of that group. I don't recommend that you add all of them, but any one of them would be fine.

No the powder blue was added last and yes, caused injury to everyone and was a complete p****.... I tried adding a bellus and he beat her to the point I had to remove her... not even 10 minutes but it was bad. He's now gone and it is just the yellow tang.

I have never looked at the powder brown, but it is listed as a passive tang.. They are beautiful and know a local reefer that has one in his tank.

After quarantine, I often keep new fish in the sump (lighted large sump) to get them use to captivity and eat well before i release them into the main DT.
I added the Powder Brown last after the Powder Blue and he keep the Powder Brown in the rock work for 1 month. I have to put a clip of Nori where the Powder Brown was hiddin to feed him. After about 4-5 weels everything was fine. All the tangs and angels need to be in before the Powder Blue for sure. My tank was a 450 g tank.
Powder brown is a very beautiful fish. The dorsal fins have total of 5-6 colors in a healthy Powder Brown (It was so long ago that I forgot) I am looking for one to go into my 340 right now.
I put two or three Nori clips in the tank at one time to keep food competition to the minimum

Powder browns are very similar in disposition to powder blues and goldrims... I can't figure out why LA lists them as passive. However, every fish has it's own personality. Consider one to be semi-aggressive (same as your yellow tang). If you go with another tang, try and get one that is about the same size as the yellow and use an acclimation box upon introduction.

I agree with the above that a bristletooth would be your best choice, whichever species you prefer.

Thanks everyone.. The bellus angels are still something I very much want in this tank so it's probably best to add the tang at the very end I would think right?

I'd likely go with the kole yellow eye.. great colors and bristletooth to boot.

Rea17,
I never keep the Gold Rim but Powder Blue is Hell on Wheel and Powder Brown is not even close to the temperment of the Powder blue. I don't think your experience is the norm.

My experience is with several individuals in large, well fed tanks. Though you are right that powder blues are probably more predisposed to becoming a terror, powder browns are no slouch. I'm just saying if the op chooses to add one, do so with caution. That yellow tang will be no pushover now that he's the king of the tank as well, hence the acclimation box.
