I have a tank with 2 clowns and a flame angel
what is the general consensus on putting a orange shoilder tang or a naso tang in this tank?

Every one will tell you no way, you'll do it anyway cause they're crazy cool, and you'll think that you'll get the fish that's the exception to the rule. Then it'll die and you'll tell everyone no way.

Um ok why did u feel the need to post this? A simple "no, it will not be happy in such a small system" would have been adequate.

Cause in the end everyone will do what they want regardless. I was trying to make the point that he should resist doing what he'll want to do, and stick with what deep down he probably already knows. Define adequate... last I checked thats a relative term.

As far as I am concerned he wasn't sure if he could as "Hobby Experience:" says new. Therefore he didn't know if he could and asked the Reef Central community for advice, not "Every one will tell you no way, you'll do it anyway cause they're crazy cool, and you'll think that you'll get the fish that's the exception to the rule. Then it'll die and you'll tell everyone no way." When u say things like that ur indicating that the person doesn't care about their livestock which is insulting.

No when I say things like that I assume he'll hope that it might be ok even if people tell him it's not a good idea. I'm telling him it's not a good idea, and your probably best not to find out for yourself. If you find that insulting maybe we'll try and get you a little girls form where you can go cry. I still gave him advice, just in a different way. I was trying to cut off a potential... "we'll maybe I can push the envelope"... maybe he'd never think that, but if he would I was just trying to help him out.

Then its as simple as "its not a good idea, and your probably best not to find out for yourself". You could have easily posted that instead. Also your new here so I am going to give u a little advice. Directly insulting members will get u banned, and quick so before an admin or mod sees ur replies take some time and edit ur post. Have a great life :D

And what do you call telling me how to word my posts... complements? Try taking your own advice and I think we'll all be fine. I think I'll take my chances and leave things exactly how they are. Given the contexts I'm sure and admin or mod would let it slide. Htmack I would not suggest it, but who am I? Cody, stick to fish not people.

I'm just trying to help ya here, I thought u were rude to him so I suggested refrasing ur comments. Then u proved my point by being rude to me. I'm done arguing with u about it. BTW sry for hijacking ur thread, simple answer is no. ANY tang would eventually die due to lack of space in a 29g.

Stop the flames.

Chin: I can see why you thought wea's post was insulting, but I don't think he meant it that way. I think he was trying to identify with the poster, and with all of us. I have certainly thought the thoughts he's referring to ("maybe, just maybe a clown will fit in a 2.5" hah!).

Wea: Don't respond so harshly to criticisms. Obviously Chin misunderstood the intention of your post. It probably would have been better to clarify that you didn't mean to insult the original poster than to respond to Chin so defensively.

Everybody, be cool!

Htmack -- first of all, is Mack your last name? Cause it's a sweet last name, if you know what I mean.

Second, stay away from the tangs unless you plan on getting a bigger tank TOMORROW (I mean, for real, not just like everybody says they are going to upgrade) lest you suffer the wrath of the Tang Police. Them're ruthless.

I know the urge. My tank is only 2.5 gallons, which means most people say no fish at all. I MIGHT risk a yellow clown goby, though. They perch and they're tiny.

Thanx, I know the answer, there are just fun stories that you hear that I was interested in. By the way, my name is actually Tyler Mack as well. This is strange.

One thing to keep in mind is a lot of ppl dispense advise w/o ever trying it themselves here on reefcentral.. personally you might be able to put a baby 3" naso tang in a 29gal for awhile till it outgrew it.. I put one in my 55gal even though they don't recommend nasos for anything less than 125.. and even then when they get full grown they dominate the tank... Just keep in mind you have to either have a tank in the next year big enough for it, or have a LFS that buys fish back.. (I grew my naso up to about 8" long before returning to the store, at that point it looked so amazing they put it in their own display tank.. they said it was one of the best looking naso's they had in a long time.. and it was raised in a 55 gal).. I actually made money off that deal and got to enjoy a pretty cool/active fish in my tank for awhile.. ofcourse that was fish only... cuz he caused the nitrates to sky rocket out of control.. I wouldn't recommend attempting something like that in a reef tank :)

i agree with cody.

Mishri, you're definitely the exception i think, having a long term success with a fish that large in a 55.

tyler, especially in a biocube, which has much less side to side swimming room, less than 2' if i remember correctly... not such a great idea.

IMO you can keep a juvi tang in your nano and move it when it outgrows the tank. one of my friend has a kole in his 25gal nano and is doing well. i think go with the kole, they grow slow and good for algae too. JMO

If you find that insulting maybe we'll try and get you a little girls form where you can go cry.

While I admire your willingness to help, that statement was completely uncalled for. There are many ways to help someone by providing constructive criticism.

The thread has served its purpose and it is now closed.
