Tangs in small quarantine tank

There's the comment I was looking for, to criticize the dangers of keeping tangs on a tinnie-tiny aquarium. Btw my dad was the one who sponsored to get all 3 cause he says "I got them all for a low price of 1600 pesos or around $35" and it's not even my idea of keeping tangs at all until I get a bigger aquarium which I will get either a 65 or 75gal sometime in October. Even then I bet it's not even enough size as you mentioned how they need 100+ gallon tank.

Nope. Not even close. I don't understand how you think keeping a tang that is already of considerable size, in a tiny tank is okay. Much less two, and two other aggressive fish. :headwally: Sure, there's the argument that keeping any fish in an aquarium is inhumane, but keeping a fish that spends its life swimming, in a tank less than a foot long is not okay. It's just plain sad. I have a 75 and I'm not even thinking about putting a small bristletooth tang in there, much less an Acanthurus. But hey, I'm just a stranger on the internet. You're not going to listen to me, I know that. But I hope any new people to the hobby reading this thread won't go and do the same.

Ive got a 100 gal tank and it will never have any tang in it because of its dimensions. Just a small handful of small non aggressive types that hide amongst the sps.

Give the kid a break. Yes it is wrong to have those tangs in a 16 or even a 75. Flaming him won't accomplish anything, educate him instead. Even the people who keep them on 8' tanks are wrong for that matter, they're still not going to be happy. Unless you own a public aquarium, you are all wrong so don't judge.

I guess that best way to fix this is to return it back at the LFS hoping they would accept it. Really hate to kill them if they're going to experience hell in my tank.

Thanks, it is my mistake and I am indeed responsible for their well being and whatever happens for them. I love to return them back at the LFS but unfortunately u don't want to due to the fact I consider my purchase of 3 tangs as a rescue due to the fact that they were caught probably using cyanide nets and were already under stress when it got to the LFS, not to mention here in the Philippines, they don't care about what they get wether they're sick, stressed or damaged. They will sell everything they have on stock so they can receive a new shipment of fish on the next day.

I also wanted to question what is the purpose of RC. Is it to educate those new to SW and give insight regarding SW, or to crush, judge, and say many hateful words to those who are wrong at what they do. I know everyone has their first time and it's usually a mistake, and I thought everything about SW was trial and error? There are so many unanswered questions about SW that we have not gathered and conclusive data and it's usually up to us reefers to find that out and explore possibilities. I for that fact only wanted to keep this hobby alive from where I'm from because it is doomed to shut down possibly in a few years. The government have already banned the sale corals. And the corals that you see in my 16gal are the ones left.that I have.

Stop giving advice when you have no knowledge base to support the advice you are giving. You have been asked multiple times, and you consider to give horrible advice. Read. Read. Don't post. Read.

To the OP:

You can add tangs at different times without issue. Just start with the least aggressive and end with the most.

I highly recommend an isolation tank in your main tank when you add new fish. It's worked wonders for reducing aggression for me.

I had 7 tangs in my 240, introduced at various times, with no issues.

I qt in a 20 long, so I tried to get smaller tangs. I also found that lots of flow helped. I had a hippo, vlamingi, sailfin, yellow, tomini, kole, and powder blue.

1st i didnt know they were a "kid"
2nd i dont care they are a "kid"
3rd they obvoiusly are on this site so they should know that isnt a good thing putting those tangs in there.
4th i wasnt judging but clearly stating facts, i didnt need to judge to realize/know what they were doing was wrong
5th your right, an aquarium is never going to equate to the ocean in aspect of space. but at your current height and weight. let me kid nap you and toss you in (what would you chose), a full size house or toss you in the closet. (same concept as a tang being toss into a 180g or a 16g)
