tangs looking thin but eating 1 or 2 times a day

i have no problem getting them to eat pellets and they picked at the nori. my system is 125g with plenty of live rock. i did order some spirulina brine. they seem to be looking better. i will offer them some green macro lettuce from my fuge and see if they like that.

If your fish are eating , they should not be thin.
But FME, some people say thin while the fish is fine, so a pic would help.

In any case, if the fish is eating and still thin, as i said earlier, you might be looking at internal patogen.
In this case you will need a medicated food and later some high protein food for beefing up.
NLS is not high protein, or at least not high enough.

NLS pellets four times a day. I have a powder blue and a powder brown (separate systems) and they both eat as much as they can cram into their bodies at every feeding.

High metabolism...they need a lot of food to maintain weight, and a ton of food to gain weight.

I am having a similar issue with a new Kole eye tang. I have had him about one week in my QT. He looks good, no sings of ick but is looking slioghtly pinched to me. He will eat some spirulina/brine and mysis shrimp, but I have offered seaweed which he has not taken yet, as well as pellets (Ocean nutrition brand), shoudl grab some NLS and see if he likes that. For a 3 1/2 inch tang, how long till I should worry? What size pellets should I try?

throw in some PE Mysis once a day for a little variety and that will certainly help fatten up the fish.

Bristletooth tangs can be difficult to QT, do you have live rock in the tank? If not, throw in a nice dirty piece of rock for the fish to scrape.

I have some live rock in the tank, but it is "young" seeded rubble rock from my fuge. He is scraping it however, everyday there is dust and small broken off pieces surrounding that rubble. Unfortunately, my DT is kinda young, and while there are several nice and dirty pieces in there, they are large chunks, and not sure I want to sacrifice them to my QT. Is there a quick way to "dirty" up a piece of rock? I could go buy a small sacrifical piece from the LFS, but not sure how much will be on it.
