Hey everyone...
I have a 470 gallon 10 foot tank with the following tangs:
Chevron (4"), Yellow (4") and Black (6")
After two months of QT I added a 2.5" Gem into an acclimation box for a week.
The day before I let him out I put up a big 6 foot mirror on the other side of the tank and all the tangs were interested in themselves.
After letting out the Gem, the first 10 minutes were fine. After that the Chevron tried to beat him to death and the Yellow would also rush him from time to time.
After about 2 hours the aggression died down and there would just be little chases.
I decided to leave for a few hours and got back to all three tangs beating the gem up. It had torn up fins and some big body gashes.
I went ahead and put the Gem back in acclimation.
I'm now thinking about adding 4 more tangs to the tank for a total for 5 (including the Gem) being introduced at once (after the other 4 go through QT).
Hoping this would really confuse the 3 established tangs and give the Gem the best shot (being the smallest right now).
I'm not going to re-arrange the rock work, just too much time and coral to mess with it... and a lot of rock...
My thoughts for the 4 tangs are:
- 4-6" Blonde Naso (Sure About)
- 3-4" Achilles (Sure About)
- 3-4" Purple
- 3-4" White Tail
- 2-3" Powder Blue
- 3-4" Fowleri
- 2-3" Sohal
- 2-3" Desjardini
I can always remove any of the tangs I add after the fact if they get too aggressive or I just don't like them.
I'm curious what everyone thinks about this plan?!?!
Thanks!
