Tangs

So I had purchased a yellow tang and a naso tang and had them in quarantine. The yellow tang did fine but the naso did not make it after day two. It's a few weeks later an I have the yellow tang in my dt now. I would still like to add my naso still. Do you think it is to late? I know with multiple tangs they should go in at the same time. But I was worried if I get another naso an then he is in qt for awhile the yellow tang will be feeling very comfortable in the dt.

What if I swap it for a smaller one like a kole eye or scopas. How would I handle a yellow being in there for a month or so before the others go in.

Your situation is a good example of why the 'add them all at once advice' is conceptually good but practically useless. Fortunately, it's unnecessary with the application of a few simple steps. QT your fish, not just for disease, but also to get them over acclimatization stress and to a good weight. Feed frequently in QT and when the time comes for the display use a socialization box initially to gauge aggressions.

There are also a few commons sense things to keep in in mind like relative size, particularly aggressive species, or swimming space. Also, intra-species aggression tends to be worse than inter-species aggression.

I would suggest against a Naso in a 180g, it will look silly when it's a foot long and pacing back and forth in your tank because of stress.
