Again if I came off as being an *** I do apologize. I just find it hard to learn by the expense of an animal and everyone that has replied to this thread knows in the back of their mind this is going to happen. The underlying point of this hobby is to conserve not destroy. If I'm wrong on this then I'm completely screwed up and have a bunch of livestock and equipment to get rid of.
To the op I'm sorry if I was rude. You should slowly phase out your current filter. In my opinion a skimmer and refugium are key pieces to a successful tank. If you haven't researched them you should. With your current setup I would watch your water parameters closely and do frequent water changes.

To the OP... Do your research and slow down! 2 months and you're practically, if not, fully stacked?! I love your enthusiasm but your fish may not! Your parameters may seem fine in tests but it doesn't mean it's perfect for the fish.

You're two months in the game... That's a pretty new and growing bioload.

Consider a new bio load like a mini Cooper... Pretty small but not clostaphobic. Well imagine the mini c the car is full with you and your friends (like the fish in your tank). The heat is high and you all pass gas at the same but no one can open a window. Oh noooooo!!! Yes, you will still live bc there's oxygen... But is it that enjoyable? NO! I think that's how fish feel in a new system.

Thanks a lot all for your responses. Makes it more fun when the folks on this site support your fish tanks well being. well as far as corals I wanted something beginner type, and not necessarily in the next few weeks or even month. Just like to envision all that my tanks missing. The skimmed however I want asap. I would love an hob skimmer any suggestions? Btw I was told all my live stock would be dead a month ago so to whoever that was, im still kickin. If it weren't for the nicer people here, the more "passionate" forum members advice would be ignored because you guys can come off discouraging. Thankfully you have translators supporting your claims. Translating mean to friendly so that your advice has a chance of being heard. Ill update you all in a month. Oh I have two t5 HO lights one with moonlight the other for sun I think. Seems when they are both on at the same time the mushrooms open up huge.

I have a HOB filter in my 135 gallon in fact it is the same brand as yours and my tank hasn't crashed in fact it is doing great! The one thing I did do to the HOB is to ditch the bio wheel and the stupid plastic carbon tray and put in a bag of chemi pure elite and it is working great. I do have a good amount of live rock though which helps out greatly! I would definatley spend the cash on live rock and start to phase out the holey rock.

keep them till after the rock is added they have benificial bacteria on them that the rock may or may not have. once Rocks in and settled you an start to remove things if possible dont remove it all at once as it can take to much of your biofiltration away at the same time. remove things in steps say a week apart


sorry not much good in the advice of a HOB skimmer ... not sure whats out there for that anymore used to be CPR backpacks and Remoras were the things to use but there might be a better animal out there now.

Do we know that will be enough? I'm not saying it isn't, I just don't know. Whenever you do remove the wheels - if there are two do them separately - like a 2 weeks apart or something.

Hello guys this is my tank 3 months in. I have made some changes to the rock structure. I felt my rock work was not open enough...especially for a coral beauty. Coralline spots are showing up on my dead rock and I've added a few creatures.

I recently added a coral beauty, cardianl bangai, and spotted tank raised mandarin. I also purchased my second coral...recently finding out it is called a green goniopora. We shall see how that does. All seems well I have gotten rid of my chromis their swimming behaviour was too zippy. My coral beauty and others are more graceful swimmers. I want to be consistent.

My nitrates are almost at 5 but how do I make that zero...will macro algae work?

I would rather see a CB in a larger tank and a little later in the tank's life, but you don't have enough rocks in there for an angel. If that's really a goniopora you are in for trouble with it. You might have be better off buying some more LR instead. Post before you buy, not after

I haven't used tap water since day 1.....

As far as the slimmer..im holding off. Im not having extreme nitrate issues and I don't want to take nutrients from the goniopora which does better in high nutrient water anyway. Im now on the fence with skimmer

Goniopora is very difficult to care for. That particular one looks like it is hurting...

You've gotta slow down...Angel fish are grazers, they need lots of live rock with lots of life to pick at. I'm crossing my fingers for you, but honestly... those are living creatures.

Your tank is not ready to support the life you are putting in it. Plain and simple.

You don't seem to have an understanding of the difference between dirty water and nutrient rich. You need to be skimming the water and feeding this coral. I can't imagine you have any way to provide what you mean by nutrient rich.
