Again if I came off as being an *** I do apologize. I just find it hard to learn by the expense of an animal and everyone that has replied to this thread knows in the back of their mind this is going to happen. The underlying point of this hobby is to conserve not destroy. If I'm wrong on this then I'm completely screwed up and have a bunch of livestock and equipment to get rid of.
To the op I'm sorry if I was rude. You should slowly phase out your current filter. In my opinion a skimmer and refugium are key pieces to a successful tank. If you haven't researched them you should. With your current setup I would watch your water parameters closely and do frequent water changes.
